I establish good eye contact with my class. I

do not talk over their heads, to the blackboard
or to just one individual.
If I tend to teach predominantly to one area of
the classroom, I am aware of this.
I make a conscious effort at all times to pay
attention to all students equally.
I divide my students into small groups in an
organized and principled manner.
I recognize that these groups should differ in
size and composition, varying with the

I arrange the seating in my class to suit the

class activity for the day.
I consider the physical comfort of the room
such as heat and light.
When I need special materials or equipment, I
have them set up before the class begins.

My handwriting on the blackboard and /or

charts is legible from all locations in the
classroom. It is large enough to accommodate
students with vision impairments.
I speak loudly enough to be heard in all parts of
the classroom and I enunciate clearly.
I vary the exercises in class, alternating rapid
and slow paced activities to keep up maximum
interest level in the class.
I am prepared to give a variety of explanations,
models or descriptions, understanding that
one explanation may not be sufficient for all
students.
I help the students form working principles and

Notes:
I used great eye contact when teaching, and I
did not talk over their heads. I included both
sides of the room, but I need to work on
including the back as well as the front.
I typically teach to the students who are in
the front, and not as much to the ones who
are in the back. They seem to cause more
trouble, so I need to engage them more.
I call on students all over the room, and not
just students with their hands raised, in an
attempt to include everyone equally.
I struggled with dividing the students into
groups, because they do not get along. That
part was unorganized and caused chaos. The
small group did not go very well.
Notes:
I left the students how they were seated
because they were grouped very
purposefully.
I turned the lights on for the students,
although they were usually turned off.
I brought in Oreos, plates, spoons, I had
prepared a PowerPoint ahead of time, and I
was very prepared for this lesson. I hung
chart paper for the engagement.

Notes:

I used all typed materials during the lesson,

so it was legible. My writing on the chart
paper was large and legible, as well.
I have a very loud voice that carries
throughout the classroom, but apparently I
have a weird pitch in my voice. I did not
hear anything weird though.
We did various activities, from the students
participating in discussions, to them filling
out notes while I was teaching, to them
creating the moon phases with Oreos.
My lesson was filled with diagrams and
visuals so the students could see exactly what

generalizations.
Students use new skills or concepts long
enough so that they are retained and thus future
application is possible.
I plan for "thinking time for my students so
they can organize their thoughts and plan what
they are going to say or do.

Diversity
D. Culture and Adjustment
o I am aware that cultural differences affect the
learning situation.
o I keep the cultural background(s) of my
students in mind when planning daily activities
and am aware of culture misunderstandings
which might arise from the activities I choose.
o I work for an atmosphere of understanding and
mutual respect.
o I tell students when they have done well, but I
don't let praise become mechanical.
o My activites are varied, some more visual,
aural, oral and kinesthetic. I provide models,
examples, and experiences to maximize
learning in each of these areas.

Notes:

Professionalism
B. Self-concepts
I treat my students with the same respect that I expect
them to show me.
I plan "one-centred" activities which give all students
an opportunity at some point to feel
important and accepted.
C. Aptitude and Perception
I am aware that my students learn differently.
My exercises are varied, some ore visual, aural, oral
and kinesthetic. I provide models,
examples, and experiences to maximize learning in each
of these areas.
I finish my class period in a way which will review
the new concepts presented during the class period. My
students can immediately evaluate their understanding of

we were discussing. However, I think they

may have been a little complex for the
students to understand.
When the students came for Space Day, they
did the same activity in their Moon Room,
and they did a very great job! They
remembered most of the information.
There were several times where I told the
students to stop and think and paused for
them to think about the answer.

Cultural differences run my classroom and

make it very difficult at times. The students
do not always get along, and they are very
rambunctious. This makes it difficult at
times to teach. The Hispanic students in the
class struggled with this lesson because they
could not understand the words, so I had to
provide extra guidance for them.
Despite the fact that the students did not
behave and were out of control, they
respected me and loved when I taught. I did
not do a great job of managing them, but we
did have a mutual respect for one another.
My activities in this lesson were varied, from
talking to listening to filling out a chart to
creating their own moons.

I loved every single one of my students,

and it was evident in the way that I
treated them. They treated me with the
same respect.
Although they were working in groups,
each student was supposed to create two
phases of the moon, which made them
feel special and important.
My students do learn differently. We
have one boy in the class who has a
learning disability, and I was not sure
what to do with him while we were
teaching because he usually just sits
there.
I did not close the lesson because it was

those concepts.
III. The Activity
A. Interaction
The activities maximize student involvement.
The activities are organized to insure a high success
rate, leaving enough room for error to make the activity
challenging.
The activity is focused.
The activity is geared to the proficiency level of my
class or slightly beyond.
I make the content of the activity relevant and
meaningful to my students' world.

really long and I ran out of time.

Most of my students were very involved
and they were actively participating in
the lesson. Some students in the back
might not have been 100% engaged,
which is something I can work on.
The activity was focused and organized.
Some people might think that the class
was too rowdy to do this activity, but I
wanted them to have the opportunity to
do something fun, because they never get
that opportunity. I tried it, and it was
not a complete disaster.
The content was relevant, as the students
were studying space and they were
visiting the space museum soon!
