Dear Parents or Guardians,

The fourth nine weeks have officially begun! In social

studies we have just wrapped up our unit covering the
American Industrial Revolution and are in the middle of our
unit covering Western Expansion. In our unit covering the
Industrial Unit your child learned about the developments in
the northern and southern regions of the United States in the
1800s, immigration to the U.S., and the advancements and
social reforms for womens rights. Students completed
research projects where they researched individual invention
that played a major role in the Industrial Revolution and
made a poster to illustrate their research. I have attached a
picture of a few the posters students created to show you
what great work your children have been doing.
During the fourth nine weeks we will be covering a lot
of exciting information beginning with western expansion in
the U.S., then moving towards how our nation became divided,
and we will conclude the semester by learning about the Civil
War.
This week in your childs social studies class we have
been learning about the Oregon Trail and the Santa Fe Trail.
I would like to invite any parents or guardians who may have
traveled along these historic trails or has any personal
connection to either of the trails to feel welcome to share
with our class any pictures or stories you may have.
We will have a lot of fun and exciting academic
opportunities coming up this semester in your childs social
studies class so below I have listed some of the important
dates to keep in mind as we approach the end of the school
year.
April 5th: Western Expansion Chapter 13 Test

April 8th: Chapter 14.1 and 14.2 Quiz
April 15th: A Nation divided Chapter 14 test

**Please note that dates may be subject to slight changes and it is likely
more important dates will be added to the list.

Sincerely,
Ms. Ingram
