that showcase what you KNOW, what you can DO, and your REFLECTION on your project. The boxes will grow as you type.
KNOW
:
Explain the goal or objective
of the course, the artistic
project/assignment, and how it
helped you meet that
goal/objective
Discuss what you needed to
know in order to complete
the artistic project/assignment
effectively and proficiently,
as
well as discussing what you
LEARNED upon
completing it.

DO
:
Discuss the process of what
you actually did in order to
complete your artistic
project/assignment and what
you can do as a result
o Think - because I
know
(this) I can now
do
(this)
Discuss new technologies
used, new subject matter
encountered, new skills
learned or skills that were
improved, etc. as you worked
through your project.

REFLECT
:
Reflect on the
process of completing the
project/assignment (both steps
taken and knowledge and
experience gained).
What went well? Why? What
could have gone better? How
could you have improved it?
How have you demonstrated
growth in your knowledge
and skills as a student & in
this artform as a result of
working through the
project/assignment?
Describe why & how this
particular project/assignment
was impactful on your tenure
as a student in the Arts
Academy?

The goal of this project was to provide the special Ed. students at Clayton Valley Charter
High School with an eventful day that would leave them with a beautiful painting on their
window that will always bring them peace and remind them of a time when they were truly
happy. In order to complete this artistic project efficiently, I needed to know a variety of
things. First, I needed to know the schedule of the spectrum classroom students and
teachers so i could ensure that mine aligned with theirs. Second, I needed to know how to
interact with the students; understand the do's and don'ts that could trigger a behavioral
outburst and what to do if that were to occur. Finally, and most importantly, I needed to
educate myself on basic art/paint information; which types of paint work on glass, which
brands are long-lasting, and which colors blend well together and display the actual colors
of a cherry blossom tree realistically. Upon completing this project, I learned that i really
enjoy working with special ed. kids and although it isn't for everyone, I can appreciate the
challenge. I also discovered that i prefer to do large scale paintings such as murals rather
than restricting myself to a canvas, and would like to begin expressing myself in that artistic
field more.
To complete my artistic project I got in contact with the special Ed. teacher at CVCHS and
organized a date with her that we could dedicate to me coming in and spending with the
students. The day of the event, I brought food and beverages for them to eat while i set up
so they could relax and settle in. Once i had brought all my supplies into the classroom, I
took each student's hand one by one, dipped it in paint, and helped them put their hand
print on the window. One hand print at a time, the paint formed one big elegant cherry
blossom tree on the window and when the light shone through, it cast pink light all across
the room. Because I have experienced this, I can now interact with disabled people more
comfortably and use my newfound knowledge about painting and art values for
assignments/projects in the future. Most importantly, this experience also provided me
with project/event planning skills that allow me to now better organize affairs. Because this
was a finger painting mural, i didnt use any new technology; I used glass paint,
newspapers, and my hands. Even though this project consisted of such an old tradition,
finger painting, i did learn new skills throughout the process as well as improving old ones.
I had to learn how to blend colors together and grasp how perspective works in a large-scale
mural in contrast to a small one, and I improved my project managing/event coordinating
skills throughout this process as well. This project really helped me gain experience
working with adults and learning to adjust around others schedules in order to achieve a
goal under a time limit.
The whole project in its entirety went very well because everything ran how i wanted it to.
My project was a one-day event that began and ended all in the span of a few hours, so it
was fairly easy to be ready for considering i had an entire semester to prepare. My project
was successful because the special ed. students and teachers were happy all day long, every
event occurred on schedule, and the window mural came out even more beautiful than i had
hoped it would. I arrived and set up on time, fed them lunch on time, completed the
painting on time, and cleaned up and left all before school got out. There was nothing that
couldve gone better because everything went so smoothly and looking back on it, i
wouldnt change anything about the day. This experience has encouraged me to
demonstrate growth in my knowledge and skills as a student. I now communicate with my
peers and teachers more comfortably and often and I dont hesitate to take charge and step
into the leadership role. The cherry blossom project made me realize that i enjoy project
management and event planning, and since then i have began stepping up and displaying
my newfound skills. Artwise, I have used the painting skills i acquired for other personal
projects and English class assignments. This project was impactful on my tenure as a
student in the Arts Academy because it clearly showcases who i am and represents the type
of work that i do. This project used art to provide disabled kids with a long lasting piece
that will bring them happiness and inspire them every day. I used my experience in visual
art to represent the Arts Academy as a whole and put my talent to use to produce an art

piece that would benefit others. If theres one thing ive learned from my time in the
Academy, its to put others before myself and use my artistic talent for a good purpose.
