How can we regulate Tourism?
Thesis: In some tourist locations, it seems almost impossible for cities to be more than just a
travel location. Regulating Tourism will be successful when we adjust the sector, return to the
traditions of local urban communities, and put the rights of residents before those of the industry.

"Tourism Legislation and Regulation." World Tourism Organization UNWTO. The World
Tourism Organization, n.d. Web. 03 Mar. 2016.
This online source gives insight on different ideas that we can regulate tourism
successfully with. It gives countless points on how our tourist cities can draft a Tourism Law for
the development, management and regulation of the tourism industry by the rights and
obligations of the Government. This law will be responsible for protecting natural and cultural
resources and tourism development and management. We need to understand the rights and
duties of the industry suppliers; and the rights and responsibility of the consumers. This article
will be helpful to my research by proving that regulations are not just beneficial towards locals.

Becker, Elizabeth. "The Revolt Against Tourism." The New York Times. The New York Times,

The article The Revolt Against Tourism displays how a small amount of tourism cities
have residential areas where tourists are encouraged not enter the areas. These regulations

restore the local communities, and evades the burden that tourists commonly leave. The sources
goes into detail about the Danish philosophy: They should blend in with the Danish way of life,
not the other way around, these zones have such a positive impact on the locals point of view
simply because there everyday life wont be bombarded by visitors. The article gives examples
on how cities that have massively been overran by travelers, are now placing one year bans on
any new tourism. Using this source will be beneficial because it offers a solution to the cities
who are suffering from massive tourists each year.

Colau, Ada. "Mass Tourism Can Kill A City." The Guardian. Guardian News and Media, 02
Sept. 2014. Web. 15 Mar. 2016.
The article Mass Tourism Can Kill a City showcases how cities are completely being
taken over by tourism, so much that in Venice, the last local shop closed a decade ago. In
situations like this, were losing are locals and seeing more of the tourists that are beginning to
settle there. The economic crisis and the collapse of the construction boom in some countries
have led to deindustrialisation throughout their country. Cities shouldnt have to fight for their
democracy back, and protest the mass tourism. The source gives many examples on locals across
the world protesting the mass tourism that has been ran into their cities. This online article will
be helpful in showing that we have to regulate tourism in order to put residents before the
business.
