Engage in Communication and Collaboration with the Interprofessional

Health Care Team
According to Bethea, Holland, and Reddick growing complexities make
it necessary for more interdependence among healthcare professionals
(Bethea et al., 2014). This need for interdependence has become more
apparent over the past several months. Nurses regularly interact with
physicians and therapists, and this collaboration is not generally something
that most nurses think about. Being enrolled in a BSN program has provided
the opportunity to explore the topic more thoroughly, and it has even

provided opportunities to learn skills that can assist with that communication
and collaboration.
There has been an increase in individual communication skills as well
as an increase in the way that those skills can be used within the
interprofessional team. Knowledge has also been gained in the BSN program
regarding individual leadership types, and how those strengths are used
within a group setting. There has been a focus on the importance of the
communication for patient care, but also for process improvement. Overall
the program has shown the importance of interprofessional collaboration,
and the communication necessary for that collaboration to occur.
