Progress of Research on the Viewpoints of NDSU Students on GMOs on

Campus

Introduction
The first two weeks of the research project concerning the viewpoints of NDSU students
on Genetically Modified Organisms (GMOs) is following the timeline with minimal drawbacks.
As you may recall, the purpose of this research is to obtain information pertaining to if GMO
usage of NDSU campus food vendors will impact student eating habits. After statistics from
surveys are recorded, the knowledge received can aid the actions of NDSU to create a better
atmosphere for its students. The subsequent sections in this memo will include what the research
group has discovered thus far as well as what future group tasks will entail.
Current Accomplishments
Within our group, we first had to decide which research project we wanted to conduct.
We decided to conduct a study on how NDSU students perceive GMOs. Our group has also
constructed the survey which will be used to collect the viewpoints of the GMOs by students.
Even though we have not done too much work on our project yet, we have accomplished
effective communication between the group members. We have created a group text message
with one anothers phone numbers, which has allowed us to efficiently plan and assign future
assignments that will be taken in order to advance further within our research project. A problem
that has arisen within our group is that our schedules contrast; therefore, it is difficult to find
times when all five of us are not busy. We have, however, learned to accomplish work within our
project without having to be together. We have done so by creating a Google document, with
which we each complete a section of the work. Although, we cannot meet in person, we are still
able to interact with each other by seeing who has editing the document.
Future Plans
Due to the previously mentioned schedule conflicts between group members,
modifications have been made to the research timeline to accommodate for lost time during
holiday breaks. A major modification in our timeline was the editing and distribution of the
surveys because the original timeline did not account for time spent choosing a proposal and
delegating responsibilities. The distribution of surveys was pushed back 3 days, from March 28
to March 31. The survey will still only be available to the public for one week, upon which the

group will begin the data analysis process. Apart from the distribution of surveys and data
analysis, our plans include to meet as a group to work on our research paper at least 3 times
before the due date, as well as work individually when possible. Once the final research paper is
completed and turned in, our group will begin to prepare and rehearse for the Showcase of
Student Writing Event, to occur on May 3th. Finally, we plan to present our finished research on
the viewpoints of NDSU students on GMOs on campus as a group at the event and are excited to
see how the NDSU community will react. We are confident our findings will impact to our
community, as Fargo, ND is heavily centered around agriculture.
Updated Research Timeline

As of the composition of this progress report, the deadlines for the following goals have been
met:
Choose proposal
Determine responsibilities
Review and edit survey
Compose and finish progress report
Our research team is confident the rest of the goals will be accomplished within their respective
deadlines.
Sincerely,
