The Social Media Feminism Effect
Today, social media has had a big impact on our daily lives. One of those impacts would
be the feminism movement. Over the past few years, social media has been a place that has
supported the feminist community very much. Social media has helped the feminist movement
by giving people a voice and using the hashtag to spread the awareness.
Social media has been giving people a voice by making the internet very easy to access.
Wallace states, Its women using high-tech to make sure we have equal rights, making sure that
as moms, as daughters, as granddaughters, as nieces, as aunts, we are empowering ourselves in
the workplace, at home, in our lives in general, and we do that through technology, Julie Z
says, The first major aspect of feminist blogging as activism is its ability to allow young women
to establish a voice. The act of writing about our beliefs and our experiences is itself a feminist
act. There are so few outlets that allow young women to express themselves on an emotional
level and even fewer that encourage us to express our intellect this expresses that having social
media is good for young girls because this gives them the choice to express themselves. This
helps people become aware of issues around them and gives them the option to participate in
current issues. Social media is now becoming more accessible to almost everyone so that they
can share their views on subjects, like feminism, that they are passionate about.
You may not believe it, but the hashtag is also another way that social media has helped
the feminist movement. Chittal says, 2014 was arguably the year that the hashtag reached the

tipping point. #yesallwomen trended for weeks...Thousands of women used the hashtag to share
their stories of how everyday sexism and violence against women had affected them. Using
hashtags has become a very popular and effective way to spread awareness about current news
and issues. The #yesallwomen hashtag is only one of the probably hundreds of hashtags that
have trended, become popular and noticed on twitter. The hashtag, #yesallwomen, was made for
women to be able to share their personal thoughts and experiences about dealing with women
suffrage, abuse,and harassment.
Social media does indeed have a positive effect on the feminism movement. This is
important because even today, feminism is still an essential part of our everyday lives.
