Of Mice And Men Essay

Everyone has once experienced loneliness, like they are in a group with thousands of
friends, but still feel like they are the only one there. Its like no one understands what they are
going through so they isolate themselves from the people around them. In this award-winning
novel, Of Mice And Men, By John Steinbeck, The reader will read of how women were
portrayed and how lonely people were, but also the authors point of view on the world.
In this story three characters, Of mice and men, have been through the stage of
loneliness and have been portrayed as the lonely, unhappy, and also segregated figures of the
novel. The author sought out that Candy, an old man with one arm, Crooks, a stable buck who
has a hunch and is a colored man that is separated from the rest, And Curleys Wife, who is
nameless and has a history of prostitution, are the three main characters that have been
impersonated as the figures who are lonely and feel a deep separation even if there are people
around them. Crooks is separated from others, because of his color. Candy is separated by others,
because of his age. Curleys Wife was separated by others, because of her gender.
That led to how John Steinbeck saw the predatory nature of the world. The world from
the authors point of view was to separate people from the weak and the strong. The weak
retaliated against each other instead of forming an alliance. Seeing as the strong attacked the
weak, whilst the weak attack the weaker. So before people were separated by their color, because
people thought that the whites had more power over the blacks, but then the girls would have less

power, seeing as they are weak and fragile. In the story a man named lennie was strong, but in
some ways he was weak, because he had the mind of a child. He would hurt animals, even
people, but he would do it unintentionally and he wouldnt know the strength that he had. That
deciphers the fact that people can inflict pain, even though they think that they are not hurting
them, but they actually are causing pain to people. Sometimes people are strong, but they dont
know that they have that much strength, but they see themselves as weak, but they have power
inside them that awakens when rage controls their thoughts.
In the story the author, John Steinbeck, portrays women as vile, a twat, a looloo etc. He
characterizes one main woman in the story. She is nameless, but in the story they address her as
Curleys wife. She is a lonely person who would have had a bright future, but due to some
troubles in the past she couldnt pursue her dreams. So she basically sold her self, but then met
curley. People look through her past and see her as a person full of mistakes, but she is
breathtakingly beautiful under all the makeup that she mask herself in. In the story there are only
few women characters. That leads to the conclusion that the author didnt have a good
perspective towards women, Seeing as he portrayed Curleys wife. In the end of the story she
was viewed as young and beautiful, but people saw her as troublesome and a jail bait.
The story, Of mice and men, have been viewed as a story that showed the life of how
people lived in the 1930s. How hard it was for the people who worked in Salinas, California.
The story taught how women were portrayed and how they were weak due to their gender. Also
it showed how some people were isolated from others due to their race, color, ethnicity, gender,
and also their age. The story illustrates the predatory nature of the world, by separating the weak
against the strong and the weak go after the weaker. This story has a unique blend of thriller and
suspense. It shows how hope was sustained even though some people could not reach the

american dream. How hope was the only thing that bined the two main characters until the end.
How two very opposite people were led to make such unforgiving decisions.
