(BARRIERS IN COMMUNICATION)
List out any three incidents from your own life wherein you had faced problems due
to communication barriers (All three types - Organizational, Interpersonal,
Intrapersonal).
Analyze the same and write how you tried to overcome them. [10 marks]

1. Intrapersonal :
Example:- I faced this problem during one of my interviews. I was exactly aware of
the subject but was not able to present it in technical language in front of the
interviewer due to intrapersonal barrier in communication wherein I was not able to
technically transform my thoughts in words.
How to overcome : To overcome this barrier in future , I did an effort to increase
my vocabulary by reading good reference books, watching technical videos (initially
with subtitles and later without subtitles) and I also practiced speaking in front of a
mirror .
2. Organizational :
Example:- During my job, i had experienced this barrier. I was working in a team on
one project which was complex & critical . there were lots of questions amongst all
the junior engineers (including myself) . I being junior was hesitant to ask questions
which I assumed were silly but a few of them were really good questions required
for the timely & smoother working of the project . Eventually the project got delayed
repeatedly due to lack of clarity within the team ,especially the juniors . This was
one example of sheer organizational barrier in communication.
How to overcome : To overcome this barrier in future , I consciously decided that I
will ask genuine questions to my seniors irrespective of the consequences as it is
required for developing clarity in my mind .
3. Interpersonal:
Example :-This is the very common barrier which I experience recently. One of my
faculty has an American accent because of which I sometime take a few extra
seconds in recollecting/translating whatever he/she said in my own words .
How to overcome : This is a very recent incident which I am yet to overcome but I
am now more involved in his/her lectures, trying to lip read, trying to synchronize
his/her words with his/her expression and preluding what could be his/her
sentence . With this I am sure I will overcome this barrier too.
