Media: Water at ~360°F The flow measurement on the hot water lines of a university's
district energy system had always caused problem. Metering of
Pipes: 3CS40 superheated hot water is a very challenging measuring task. The
Material: carbon steel elevated temperatures cause premature failure of the flow sensor
Simple and REPEATABLE elements and run out of the couplant grease between transducer
measurement solutions utilizing and pipe. The signal levels typically show a gradual decrease due to
clamp-on transducers and precision temperature breakdown and run-out of the couplant. The meters
matched RTD’s currently deployed at this location have been prone to this failure
mode, leading to data, and hence accountability, losses.

FLEXIM's patented WaveInjector removes the transducer from the
hot pipe. The WaveInjector incorporates solid coupling materials
thereby eliminating the thermal breakdown associated with
conventional couplants for ultrasonic transducers.

Pictured above is a traditional mounting method

for ultrasonic transducers: The couplant just
drips off the pipe, acoustic contact to the pipe is
lost, and the meter is left helpless to process
energy and flow measurements.
