Types of food served and meal service

British food is traditionally based on beef, lamb, pork chicken, and fish. Its usually
served with potatoes and one other vegetable. The most common foods eaten in
Britain today are sandwiches, fish and chips, pies such as the cornish pastry, trifle
and roast dinners. Two main dishes are Bubble & squeak and Toad in the Hole.
Toad in the Hole are sausages covered in batter and roasted. Bubble & squeak is
usually made from cold vegetables that were leftover from a previous meal. The
cold vegetables are fried in a pan with mashed potatoes until the mixture is wellcooked and brown on the sides.
Afternoon Tea was introduced in 1840, afternoon tea is a post lunch tea ritual. It is
a time to get a relaxing break in the day. Afternoon tea is typically served around 3
or 4 p.m. The types of foods you will eat during afternoon tea are finger foods
such as scones, cakes, macaroons, and crustless finger sandwiches.

2/3 cup currants

2 egg

2 Tbsp milk

-Cut out with a round cookie cutter. (Apparently, traditionally the edges should also be fluted!)
-Reroll the trimmings and cut out more rounds.
-Heat a large skillet over medium heat. Lightly grease with either cooking spray or a little butter.
-Place as many rounds as will fit on the skillet without touching.
-Cook approx 3-4 minutes on the first side. Carefully flip over.
-Cook for another 3 or so minutes. (If bottoms are going too dark, too fast then turn down your heat!)
-Remove from pan to a wire rack.
-Sprinkle immediately with a little sugar.
-Continue cooking remaining cakes.
