Lesson Plan format for Individual Lessons during the Block Practicum
LESSON Chance and Data- lesson 2 DATE 17th May (Tuesday)

TIME: 40 minutes YEAR: 1&2

UNIT OUTCOMES/ESSENTIAL LEARNINGS:

LEARNING OBJECTIVES:
At the end of this lesson students will have the opportunity to demonstrate
their ability to:
1. Classify data as certain, likely, unlikely, impossible
2. Have an understanding of language related to Chance and data

STUDENTS PRIOR KNOWLEDGE:


Year 1
Answer yes/no questions to collect information and make simple inferences
(ACMSP011)
Year 2
Chance
Identify outcomes of familiar events involving chance and describe them
using everyday language such as will happen, wont happen or might
happen (ACMSP024)
Data representation and interpretation
Choose simple questions and gather responses and make simple inferences
(ACMSP262)
Represent data with objects and drawings where one object or drawing
represents one data value. Describe the displays (ACMSP263)

LESSON PROCEDURE:

Motivation and Lesson Introduction:

Revisit word wall and definitions

Discuss work completed yesterday what did students find?

Lesson Content:
Create Wordle using students own words can do as a group print and add
to word wall
Use spinners and work out as group which colour has the greatest chance of
being spun- is it fair? Why/why not? students justify thinking
Give them worksheet (tally sheet) to record what they find. Work together to
create chart to depict data
Different coloured pieces of paper?
Lesson Conclusion:
Discuss Findings visual representation

ASSESSMENT/EVALUTION OF STUDENT LEARNING:


Observational Assessment - Formative
This is an engagement lesson for this topic, I will develop further lessons
based on what students require attention on.

LESSON MODIFICATION TO ACCOMMODATE INDIVIDUAL STUDENTS:


L may not be engaged in this lesson or will already have an understanding of
chance and data.
L will be encouraged to join in the discussion following this L will be given the
task of creating his own data and developing his own chart/table/ images to
depict his results.

EXTENDED ACTIVITIES FOR FAST FINISHERS:


Students who finish quickly can help others or assist with creating the chart
(gluing etc)
