ANNOTATIONS:
1. This area gets childrens attention when called to the carpet. It is a learning area,
where the teacher demonstrates how to complete the tasks and activity the
teacher sets. It also is an area where children can grow and develop their social
skills, where they share stories during news time. Finally, it is also a place where
children can go beyond their imagination during reading time, as the teacher
reads.
2. The smart board is not used a lot during class lessons, other than marking the roll
on the computer, as a kindergarten teacher the supervising teacher does not use
the smart board a lot. During class the smartboard will be used after a long day
just before home time, to relax the children, and allow them to sing along to
nursery rhymes.
3. The small white board located in front of the carpet is used as a demonstration
board. The teacher uses it to show how to complete activities to students, and also
place large reading books when reading to the class.
4. & 5. The teachers desk is in an interesting position. Usually a teachers desk
would be in front of the class. However, this desk is located in a corner of the
class, merely just to hold the teachers belongings. This can be an advantage for a
successful learning environment as students can notice that they have their
teachers full attention. Instead the teacher has one lone chair.
6.& 11. The reading groups pouches is a motivator for students to begin
reading once they finish their work. The teacher has grouped the students according
to their reading levels- by animal names. Each week she changes the books in each
pouch.
7. As a teacher, organisation is vital. To have an area where all resources are
organised and labelled- makes a teachers job much easier.
8. & 10. The Reading corner is another class strategy, where it also encourages
children to pick a book they are interested in and read in a quiet corner.
9. Word wall- This is another classroom set up- where teachers can aid students in a
new, exciting way. Every time a student learns a new word, they must go and write it
on the wall. Every day in the morning as a class, the teacher goes through the words
together with students.
12. Posters make the learning environment much more vibrant. My supervising
teacher, puts relevant posters such as the schools rules, ABCs, numbers, and childrens
work.
13. Due to having a small class, the class teacher grouped the children into 6 students
across 3 tables. This works well, as the teacher can walk around easily and help students
when needed.
14. This corner is very efficient within class. Once the teacher sets a task, she
individually calls each student to do some guided reading, or guided writing- improving
and focusing each childs learning need.
