Previously Married Partners

Interview at least two other people. Record their responses to the following questions as
well as you own responses. If you were seeking a marital partner, would you consider a
previously married person? Why or why not? What role, if any, does your age play in
your decision? Would it make a difference if he or she already had children?

Mother: Yes, I would consider a previously married person, because I would consider
anybody, everyone deserves a chance.
My age plays a role because Im old enough that most people I would consider marrying
have probably been married.
Not if they were grown children, but if they were little children I dont think I would
consider it as heavily.

Father: I would consider marrying someone who was previously married if they were
the same age or younger. I would consider marrying someone that was previously
married because I dont judge, its about the person and not the label. If i was any older, I
probably wouldn't get remarried. No, it would not make a difference if she already had
children.

Myself: Yeah, I would consider marrying a previously married person, I think that there
would be possible advantages and disadvantages. That person may have divorced because
it wasnt healthy to stay with their previous spouse and they may have learned a lot from
their previous marriage. Strong and Cohen says, According to various studies, remarried
people are about as satisfied or happy in their second marriages as they were in their first
marriages.(Strong and Cohen 519) Disadvantages would be the possibility of the person
being divorced because they were horrible spouses. I don't think my age, 17, has much
influence over my opinion. I don't think it would make a difference if they had children
or not.
