The Evolution of Volleyball

A lot of Athletes play the sport of volleyball but rarely any of them know
where it came from. It is good for an athlete to know where the sport came
from to better understand it.
The game of volleyball was invented in 1895 by William G. Morgan after he
graduated from the Springfield Collage of the YMCA, and wanted to create a
game which was a combination of basketball, baseball, tennis and handball.
He created this game for his businessmen that wouldnt be as physical as
basketball. At the time, the game was called mintonette and they used a
tennis net that was raised 66 high above the average mens height. They
got the name volleyball by the workers were volleying it back and forth
over the net and thought the name volleyball would suit the game better.
On July 6 1896, the first game of volleyball
was played at Springfield collage. By the 1900s,
Volleyball was spreading across the world as the
new sport. Also in the 1900s, a special ball was
designed for the sport which has three layers of
latex bladder made from the same material of
bicycle tire, second layer was a cheesecloth material that was around the
bladder, and lastly a leather outer layer. This modern volleyball has not
changed somewhat since the first design.
From the late 1800s when volleyball was first created, there are so
many more people who are just falling in love with the game. There are

about 800 million players worldwide that play volleyball at least once a week
and there are 46 million Americans who play volleyball. In this coming up
