Web Content & Marketing

http://nangamai.weebly.com/
Central to this campaign,
Nanga Mai
is our website. This website acts as the central hub,
a one stop destination for all content in regards to this campaign. The content displayed
on the website covers; access to the origin story (an infused of
The Rainbow Serpent
and
Banjo Pattersons bush ballad Waltzing Matilda), a description of
The Chosen One
(the
players)s roles, description of the heroes and villains found within the campaign, access
to our quiz, video game, trailers, information about the merchant store and his items
available, an about page, and finally social media contact, such as Facebook, Youtube,
Google+.

The website can be discovered by finding one of our posters which provides a QR code
and links to our website and social media sites.

All other platforms provide access to the website, however not all platforms can be
accessed from the website, due to a certain evil spirit *cough* I blame you, Banjo!
*cough*.
These platforms are the facebook pages of Dhrakkan the Rainbow Gan and the Merchant
Shop.

There are three facebook pages available. Currently, the only Facebook page accessible
from the website is Banjo the Swagman from Nanga Mai. However, the other facebook
pages can be accessible through Banjos facebook page. For a bit of fun the characters
interact by taunting each other on each others pages.

Quiz

On the website lives a quiz. The purpose of such is to provide lost Chosen Ones some
guidance. Completing the quiz will result in a suggestion of character class to those who
dont know their true calling.

The Video Game

Accessible through the website, is a 2D platform game for users to play. This video game
is the introduction to the opening up a visual and interactive incarnation of a fantasy
world. The game was intended to allows users to choose a character role between the
ranger, warrior and mage with each of their own starter weapon (much like the quiz),
however this will not be implemented for the prototype. However, users can still play as a
character and progress through the two levels in which they can jump upon platforms,
collecting falling coins, health potions, life and fight the villains that they encounter such
as Drop Bears, Giant Spiders and the Bunyip. The second level is presents a major villain,
Captain Thunderbolt
to battle, much like how there is a final battle at the end of the Live
Action Role Play. After the final battle, the character goes through a portal stating that

the portal misdirected them indicating the user will be able to follow and carry on with
the adventure on another platform, the Live Action Role Play.

Live Action Role Play

On Monday 2nd May 2016, our live action role playing campaign took place. In order to
execute this experience, we enlisted the help of five actors and chose four willing players
to run through the scenario over the course of the day. Actors were placed along a path
and given a script to vaguely follow which allowed for improvisation based on player
choice. The experience was recorded with two cameras, one being a GoPro by the player
to provide a first person view, and another documenting the experience as a whole.
A trailer and each of these play-throughs can be found on our Youtube channel.

In Review
Due to the ambitious nature of our project, our production team opted to focus on the
completion of quality content and experiences over analysing audience traffic. Due to
this, our production process was segmented and completed out of sequence to the
intended way a person may stumble upon our project in its final form. In this sense our
prototype could be considered as a pilot or proof of concept. Our approach was to create
a focus group and enact our live action role playing campaign in a controlled way and not
open to the public. This was done before completion of any marketing, thus we cannot
provide no analytics. However we were able to gain testimonials from participants of the
day.
Players:

10

"I'm so glad I joined in on this epic story. I wasn't quite sure about what I was in for but I'm
glad I didn't give up the opportunity to take part in Nanga Mai, I would recommended
everyone trying it."
Brett Yates

" I felt like I was making decisions for myself. I had control of what was going on until I got to
the end and realized that I had so many more options available."
Simon Thompson

"The best part was that I got to destroy people in the campaign. The fighting was my favorite
part. I felt fully immersed in the environment."
Will Prior

Actors:
"Spending a day hanging out and fighting my friends was quite a bit of fun. I played a small part but being
given objectives rather than a script kept things interesting as I had the chance to do things differently with
each player and make my character my own. As the interactions were different every time this this was pretty
entertaining. The only issue I had was it getting pretty cold by the end; in hindsight I should have brought
warmer clothes."

Chris Hawley
(Mad Dog)

"The experience was kind of interesting, having acted in small university projects before I was always given a
script and directed in how I should act. This was different I was given a script but from their I was free to
rework the dialogue, the tone of my character, the appearance etc. Due to the long take nature of the
project, it was a very make it up on the fly kind of experience it was fun and refreshing. In regards to the

actual project itself I am interested to see how the team strings all the footage together to achieve their goal.
It was a very cool idea and I think they can pull off something really unique and amazing."

Jack Horton (Brave Jack)

Though I have little experience, I believe acting in the live action role-play was a unique acting experience.
Unlike normal theatre acting the script functioned as a launching pad for improvised actions and dialogue
between me and the player. It was fun not knowing what was going to happen, or how the player would
react.

Tom Downes
(Kelly Ned)

Having never done a Live Action Role Play, as either Player or NPC, I had no idea what to expect. Thankfully
the directors had a good idea of what was happening, and informed me of my character and how the whole
thing would happen. Overall I enjoyed the experience as I got to make my own character and use my improv
skills in each of my scenes.
