UptonMemorial Elementary School is excited to announce that the fourth grade classes will be presenting their social studies projects. The presentations will be given in the form of a newscast video. The WMES News presentations will take place on the 26th of May 2016. All family and friends are invited to attend at 69 Main St. Upton, MA. The children have been studying units such as Immigration, U.S. Landmarks, Washington DC, Regions of the U.S., Map skills, Mexico and Canada in preparation for this project. The projects are designed to develop the children's collaboration skills and demonstrate the understanding of their newscast topic. Fourth grade teacher, Miss. Chase stated, My hope for this project is that the children gain experience on creating a collaborative project demonstrating the social studies material that they have learned. The groups, by topic, were assigned National landmarks, different eras of time and significant events in American history. The students were prompted to make props, plan costumes, write and practice scripts. Nipmuc Regional High School Scholars have taken on the challenge of filming the skits as a way to practice skills learned through the scholars program. The elementary students, exclaimed that they are excited to film their newscasts and share the May 26th viewing with family and friends. Questions can be directed to gbrown@mursd.org.
