Mixed Number
Ratio
Part-to-part ratio
Part-to-whole ratio
Terms of a ratio
Equivalent Ratios
Percent

Lesson 1: Mixed Numbers

A mixed number is a number that has a whole part and a fraction part
An improper fraction is a fraction that has a numerator that is larger
than its denominator
You use these types of numbers to describe amounts greater than 1

Describe each picture as an improper fraction AND as a mixed number

Lesson 2: Converting Between Mixed Numbers and Improper

Fractions
Sometimes, to understand a fraction better, you may want to change the
mixed number to a fraction.
Here is how to do it
1. Multiply the denominator by the whole number
2. Add the numerator
3. Place your answer above the old denominator

Your Turn:

Lesson 3: Comparing Mixed Numbers and Improper Fractions

You cannot compare a mixed fraction with an improper fraction

because they are different from each other.
They both have to be improper fractions, or both have to be mixed
numbers

Here is how to change an improper fraction to a mixed number

Now to compare the fractionsfind out which one is bigger!

Find a common denominator.

Do this by skip-counting to find a common multiple

Lesson 4: Exploring Ratios

A Ratio is a comparison of two or more things

For example: you can use a ratio to compare the number of sloths to lemurs

The Ratio of Slots to Lemurs is 3 : 4

Lesson 5: Equivalent Ratios

Equivalent Ratios represent the same comparison. What you do to one side
of the ratio, you must do to the other
For example: if I wanted to double my ratio of sloths and lemurs I would
multiply each side of the ratio by 2
The ratio 3:4 now becomes 6:8
*** what would happen if I multiplied the ratio by 4? ***

Lesson 7: Exploring Percents, Decimals and Fractions

IN ORDER TO FIND A PERCENT

1. Top number divided by bottom number
a. This will give you a decimal
2. Multiply the decimal by 100 **PERCENTS ARE ALWAYS OUT
OF 100**

To change a decimal to a percent

MULTIPLY BY 100
To change a decimal to a fraction:
PUT THE NUMBERS BEHIND THE DECIMAL ON TOP OF 100
