Hello, my name is Fernanda Reyes and I am from Instituto Anglo Britnico,
this bimester we will be working on the Innovation Fair, in which we have to make a
product that solve a problem, and in this Criteria we have to search of different
products that can help for the society or our community. We searched for different
types of products and then we modified them to obtain a better one, which can work
better.
Criteria A: Inquiring and Analyzing: Analyzing Existing Products
This is a paint were also you can
save different accessories or tools that
you can use for the daily life or things
that occupy space but you dont really
need them. For my opinion this can be
used from children to adults. This is
solving the problems and the issue to
lose all your stuff because you dont
even know where you leave your things
and also you save space. For this we
will need all the accessories that you
could use, a paint of your preference
and wood. I think that this I can do it
alone, since it does not that hard but the
support of an adult will be great. This
could be a very useful product since it
can save a lot of space. I think that has an appropriated cost since is an easy product
but is complex.

Fernanda Reyes Snchez 8C #18

This is a washing room hidden
as a closet, this could be very useful
since the washing room always occupy
a lot of space, and in a department it
could be very useful, I think that this
product can be difficult to construct but
with effort and the support of our
parents we can do it. Probably the
people who will use it is the person that
cleans in each house. This solve the
issue of been losing all the things and
also you save space. The materials
that probably you will use are the
washing staff, wood and nails. This
could really be a good product; it can
help on a little department or for innovate. I think that has an appropriated cost since
is an easy product but is complex.
This is a product, which will help that
you can do the things at the same time and
you save space in your house, this can be
used by the people that cook in every house,
or even in restaurants or with chefs. The
material could be plastic, aluminum, and
glasses. I think that I can do it by myself, but
teachers or parent support will not be that
bad. The cost should be appropriated since
this product can be easier to make than the
once that the market sell. This will have a
more less long life product since is made of
plastic and aluminum and it could destroy or
broke.

Criteria A: Inquiring and Analyzing: Justify the Need
Hello, my name is Fernanda Reyes and currently I am studying on Instituto
Anglo Britanico, the Technology Fair is coming, and we have to prepare our product
for it, we have been working with Teacher Aida in different criteria that can help us
to create our product and now the next is justify needs I have
been investigating for these criteria to bring the correct information in this
document and at the end we could have a product that really solve a problem and
really can help the society since that is the technologys fair goal.
The problem is that there is a lot of people in the world that do not have
enough money, enough space or do not live on a country that have space to live,
there is some people that have departments very reduce that they can even
breathe This problem occurs worldwide on some much people and sometimes they
can even do nothing since the country have not the enough space or have more
population that the expected and wished.
This problem occurs mainly in countries like France or China, that have a lot
of population and do not have space to all the people that like there, and also they
have a lot of tourists which make the population increase even more than it was, and
the worst is that every day the population in this country every day increase with
more births and less deaths and the space in China and France soon will be over.
The reduce spaces have been since always, since the human start to been
on Earth they have been fighting for land and nowadays it has continued and its
expected that in the future is the same or even more and has always been one of
the most important things for human being and now that we need more land,
more money, more space, but there is not more.
The causes of this problem is the lack of money of the people to buy a bigger
land or space for live or construct their houses The lack of space because the
overpopulation around the world and the lack of space because businesses,
factories and companies. Another cause is that the departments of house now are
constructed up but not at large, and that construction up is not space used correctly
but they cannot be larger since the builders doesnt have space.
The worst of this problem is that it has a lot of consequences that are not that
good like that people that live or work in reduce spaces tended to be more stress.
The people that live or work in reduced spaces also tend to develop a little of
claustrophobia. Another problem that can develop with the years is the lack of space
to make things like exercise or even cook, which in fact, produce more stress and
stress means a shorter life.

Yes

No

Basically this is a photo were a woman has

a lot of problems in her kitchen since is a very
reduce space and she does not have the enough
space to perform all that she wants to do or cook.

In this photo it seems how the people have

to put all together her or his things since they
dont have the enough space to put all the things
they need, also they want to put a lot of things or
stuff but they cant since they dont have space.

In this photo is the same as the last one,

they need a lot of things to be in her or his
house such as an office, a bed, a closet and
more things but is the same problem, there is
not space.

Fernanda Reyes Snchez 8C #18

Criteria A: Inquiring and Analyzing: Prioritize Research
Some companies, organizations, programs or enterprises work with reduce
spaces such as: BoConcept mainly works with companies, enterprises, houses or
departments that buy a small space of land and they have to have in their offices a
lot of stuff or different things in order to convert it into a real office or enterprise, this
is basically for they can design their own offices and order all their spaces and have
a pretty place to work or live. They have also different furniture that can change of
form or way of using but still, they work with that. Frans Schrofer is a designer since
a long time ago, that also is involve with the reduced spaces, this man designs how
the house or the company will be for the furniture and all the stuff can be in a single
place or occupy less space than usually. he uses playful and distinctive details to
make his designs stand out. But he never compromises on comfort and function.
Fran Schrofer is a designer since a long time ago, that is also involve with the
reduced spaces, he works for the BoConcept enterprise. He wants his designs to
support the idea of getting more out of life. He really thinks the Ottawa collection as
a whole captures this spirit with its sensual minimalistic design that works and
touches you at the same time.
Morten Georgsen is a designer for reduce spaces, his work basically is to
order the furniture in the houses or enterprises and then occupy the less amount of
space that it can. When he creates multifunctional pieces, the challenge is to
maintain the style and the simple is best philosophy. The simplest, most modest look
is by far the most complicated thing to achieve. Countries such as China or France
also have been fighting for this problems since these countries suffer from over
population and visits to its country, which make the land or space very little or reduce
so, thus countries have mainly been working on solutions, organizations and
enterprises that can help to solve the problems and give a life style to its people,
population and tourists.

Criteria B: Developing Ideas: Present Final Chosen Design
When the teacher made the Innovation Fair teams it was time to decide which
product we will produce for the Innovation Fair and which will be the product that will
represent us so, we get in teams and propose our different ideas and why we should
build our own products so what my teammates where proposing was:
Maria Andreas idea was to create a portable ramp for people who use
wheelchair. The ramp is going to be made of wood and will be easy to save and
carry. This helps people who use wheelchair when they have problems with the
street steps or sidewalks, because sometimes not all the places are prepared
enough and have ramps. So they can carry their own ramp wherever they go.
My idea was to create a washing room hidden as a closet and is this could be
very useful because usually people have a whole room with all the cleaning stuff,
and that takes too much space. For people who live in reduced spaces this could be
very helpful. It will be like a closet made of wood and in the doors there would be
some shelves to put all the cleaning stuff. Probably it will take time and work because
is difficult to create but is very practical and useful.
Daniels idea was to generate energy with the movement of a bicycle. This
helps people with low resources to have energy in their home by making exercise in
the bicycle. But also making sure that people is making exercise every day but also,
assure that there is not overweight in countries such as Mexico and the United States
which are the countries that have the bigger range on overweight.
Americas idea was to create an ironing board that can be converted into a
mirror by turning it over on the other side. That way you can save space by having
were to iron your clothes and after you finish fixing yourself take a look at yourself
image. Probably it will be a little complicated to create it because it has to be made
very carefully because the mirror should be located correctly in the ironing board
because it can be dangerous.
Willys idea was to create a type of air conditioner that is going to be
constructed with a foam cooler, a mini portable fan and tubes. The foam cooler is
going to filled with ice cubes, the tubes are going to be placed in one side of the
cooler and the fan is going to be placed in the laid of the cooler, making a hole in it
the air will pass through the cooler and get out through the tubes. That way it will
fresh a room. This will help people who can afford an expensive air conditioner and
also save the environment because we are not wasting that much of energy.

11

Fernanda Reyes Snchez 8C #18

After presenting all of our ideas we came to the conclusion that the best option
to create was Willys idea, since we thought that it will help to the rural or poor
communities that cant afford air conditioners but also we thought about that we are
helping the environment because, the air conditioners consume and waste a lot of
energy but, since this product consume less, we thought that could also help the
environment in many different forms.
Since we chose Willys idea, we had to correct his documents such as the
prioritize research and the justify the need since he had some mistakes and lack of
information in those documents, the documents are the following:

Justify the Need

What I am solving here is the reduction or safe of energy, the energy is
one of the most important resources we as human have so, we need to take care of
it and not caste it and, also I am solving the problems of economy, air conditioners
and the use of them is very expensive and with this you can save bigger quantities
of money.
Where you can use it? It would be better to use it in houses, it is kind of small,
and also in places where people does not have the enough bill to pay for air
conditioner in order to help them to save capital and preventing the waste of energy.
Why? The problem is the waste of energy, the air conditioners waste too
mucho energy but that isn`t all, the air conditioner when is working is too expensive,
we all like it because in a hot day it refreshes, but really it does not worth all the
famous, it is affecting more than making the good for us, it pollute, makes people
waste money and electricity.
How? Our air conditioner is the best solution for this, it is solving three
problems; the waste of energy, the economy of the user, and also the garbage, it is
a totally recycled product, requires energy in order to function, yes, but few and the
one third of the energy that would be less than the one used by the air conditioner.

12

Fernanda Reyes Snchez 8C #18

- Air conditioning an office for one extra hour a day uses enough energy in a month
to power a TV for over a year. (The Carbon Trust)
- Air conditioned buildings use roughly twice as much energy as naturally ventilated
ones. (Royal Institute of British Architects)
Leaving your fan running overnight over the summer wastes enough energy to:

- run an LCD TV over the same period.

- power your iPhone for 25 years.
- power your laptop for a year.
It would take a tree more than a year to absorb all the CO 2 emitted by a single fan
left on overnight over a summer.
Air conditioners use about 5% of all the electricity produced in the United States, at
an annual cost of more than $11 billion to homeowners. As a result, roughly 100
million tons of carbon dioxide are released into the air each year -- an average of
about two tons for each home with an air conditioner.
One of the most obvious reasons why a portable air conditioning unit can lower your
energy bills, is because they can easily be moved from room-to-room. No matter
where you are in your house, you can rest assured that you will be in a room that is
cool and comfortable. This allows you to use your central A/C less, or maybe not
even at all, and still keep it cool in the area of your home that matters the most
the room you and your family are in.
Why keep your entire house cool when nobody is occupying those rooms? Its a
waste of energy and money, which is precisely why a portable air conditioner is an
efficient option that allows you to control your indoor temperature in a strategic
manner.
A portable air conditioning unit is a great way to give a specific area in your home a
quick boost of cool air, helping get the temperature back to comfortable levels
quicker than any other type of air conditioner every could.
Having one that is too large means youre unnecessarily using energy when you
dont have to. On the flip side, having one thats too small means that your unit will
have to work harder to cool the room to your desired temperatures. But the Kool-air
works great.

13

Fernanda Reyes Snchez 8C #18

A powerful reason to have a portable air conditioner is:
Energy Efficiency:
Contemporary portable units are made to be more energy efficient than wall units.
Something you have to keep in mind is that window units roast in the sun all day,
which can cause premature wear and tear and make them work harder than they
have to, which may cause your energy bills to go up. And specially our portable air
washer is made of recycled material. (Zorn, 2016)

Prioritize Research
The waste of energy now a day has been a very big problem for our world, society
and community because that issue, people now are thinking in many new and
innovative ways to support our society such as with organizations and products. IDA
estimates that least 30 percent of all outdoor lighting in the U.S. alone is wasted,
mostly by lights that arent shielded. That adds up to $3.3 billion and the release of
21 million tons of carbon dioxide per year. To offset all that carbon dioxide, wed
have to plant 875 million trees annually, which is impossible to achieve in the
situation that we are living right now.
For supporting the waste of energy, there are different organizations such as
one called ALENER who is working with other different organizations and NGOs to
disseminate, document, investigate and influence the creation of the sectoral view
of energy efficiency, especially in buildings but also, develop the market for
technologies that increase comfort in buildings and reduce the emission of
greenhouse gases.
Most of the organizations that work with the environment and the energy
waste have basically the same objectives: influence the national agenda so that
energy efficiency becomes a priority in the federal and local levels; Create networks
and strategic alliances with the three levels of government, civil society, media,
academia and international organizations; Disseminate best national and
international practices, the most important technological discoveries and new
measures which are generated; Investigate new findings, products and innovation
related to energy efficiency in buildings; Develop services and products for
companies, organizations and users to support specific needs related to energy
efficiency.
The energy waste created a big world of pollution and energy wasted, with
the different organizations, products, governmental help, and societys help there is
a probability to make a better world and environment for the community.

16

Fernanda Reyes Snchez 8C #18

When we finished stablishing our problem and product we realize that we had
to start writing an objective and a comparison table for our product:
Objective of our product
The objective of our product is to make a world that has less pollution, in the
next years is expect that the world finishes because the excess of pollution in this
world, the main cause of the pollution is the energy used by human hands, such as
the electricity that we use at our everyday lives, this product can actually make that
the energy that we expend in our houses is less so, the current and first objective of
our product is to make an air conditioner that reduces the expended energy and help
the world to be a better place.
In some countries like Mexico, Honduras, Venezuela or Colombia and other
Latin American countries the economy is not that good, and a lot of people suffer
from extremely hot temperatures but, they do not have the enough resources to buy
an air conditioner for all their houses so, our second objective for make this product
is that it will help the economy but also satisfy needs.

Procedures
First procedure:
1. - First in the icebox we will have to mark the outline of the small fan and PVC
tubes.
2. - After the cutter we will have to cut marks fan and pipes.
3. - Then if we were to get a foothold in the PVC pipes with some silicon will be able
to seal it.
4. - Then we will have to put in the cooler ice, frozen bottles, etc (to leave the fresh
air).
5. - Then they will have to hit China's role in the tubes to see that if air out.
6. - Finally they connect the fan to turn it on and enjoy the fresh air.
Second procedure:
1. -Let's see how to build a simple home air conditioning for students. Only a fan, a
copper pipe, buckets, plastic and rubber ice is needed.
2. - It is simple and crude but it works. Estop is a translation of Geoff. In addition to
their website you can find some modifications and improvements to the air
conditioning.
3. - While I believe that the invention responds to the concept of air conditioning
refrigerator. Actually the title should be ... How to build an air conditioner or
refrigerator with a fan.
4. - The assembly is basically the dustbin filled with ice water and make a gravity
siphon with rubber tubes and copper pipe.
5. - The contraption room cool "medium-sized" to a comfortable temperature in about
15 to 20 minutes. Depending on the speed of the water system it may take about 2
or 3 hours, but this is on the cube size, amount of water and this speed.
6. - The main factor is the operating fluid inlet temperature. With normal water work,
but with ice water cools much faster.
I think that the one that we can choose is the first one because the second
procedure needs more material and they are more or less difficult to find them so
the first one I get it from YouTube and it look easy except one part that is to put a
special paper that the cardboard box dont get wet that is the complicated part but
you can do it with an icebox of dry ice so thats why we choose the first procedure.

Criteria C: Creating a Solution: Demonstrate Technical Skills
In this section we will explain with images the different steps that our product
has in order to be created.

Step 1: Cut small

newspaper pieces. (It can
be with your hands, it
doesn't have to be perfect)

Step 4: Paint the box and let

it dry.

Step 2: Paste the small

newspaper pieces with
gruel made of glue and
water.

Step 5: Measure 2 PVC

tubes and cut them 15
cm long.

Step 3: Make several

layers with the
newspaper strips and let
the gruel dry.

Step 6: Measure the

diameter of the PVC
tubes.

24

Fernanda Reyes Snchez 8C #18

Step 7: Draw the

circumference of the
circle in one lateral side
of the box.

Step 10: Paste the PVC

tubes in the box.

Step 8: Cut the

circumference with the
cutter.

Step 11: Measure in

another foam cooler (foam
cooler 2) 17 cm for the
height.

Step 9: Place some

plastic strips in the border
of the PVC tubes.

Step 12: Mark the

measures on each side
of the box.

25

Fernanda Reyes Snchez 8C #18

Step 13: Cut the foam

cooler (2).

Step 16: Draw the

measures on a piece of
cardboard.

Step 14: Make a hole to

let the wire pass through it.

Step 17: Cut the

cardboard.

Step 15: Take the

measures of the box.

Step 18: Follow steps 1,2,3

(which consist of making
newspaper strips, cover the
foam cooler with them and
gruel and make several
layers. (For the foam cooler
2)

26

Fernanda Reyes Snchez 8C #18

Step 19: Paint the foam

cooler and let it dry.

Step 21: Draw the square in the

foam cooler (2).

Step 20: Cut a cardboard square with

measures of 14 cm by 12cm.

Step 22: Cut the square.

Step 23: Paste a small piece of

cardboard on the side cover in
order to pull it easily.
27

Fernanda Reyes Snchez 8C #18

Step 24: Add glue in the borders

of the foam cooler to paste the
upper cover.

Step 26: Paste the foam cooler

over it and let the glue dry.

Step 25: Place the fan inside the

foam cooler.

Step 27: Finally place the

upper cover.

Fernanda Reyes Snchez 8C #18

Criteria C: Creating a Solution: Justify Changes Made to the Design
For the creation of our product, when we were creating it we realized that we
had to make some changes such as with the upper cover, when we put it we realized
that was too small for the product that we were constructing so, our only option was
to make it bigger and continue with the process of the product but we also, change
of mind, with the design of the air conditioner, since originally it would be totally gray,
but then we saw that it needed more design so, we made some dots. Also we did
not take in consideration that the fan needs air to work so, later we made some dots
for it could be with the air.

Criteria D: Evaluating the solution: Explain how the product could be improved
By taking the peoples opinions we concluded that we could improve our
product by adding a lug to carry it easier or adding wheels in order to transport it to
different rooms without making too much effort. Also they mention that maybe
changing the size, like make it in a bigger size so it could have a greater capacity for
ice, well, depending on the size of the room you are in and making it of a more
resistant material. Those were the aspects that the people mentioned when we
asked them how we could improve our product, so that would make our product
more efficient.
