Our Civility

Our civilizations around the world all have different systems in place,
some work some dont. However I dont think a countrys political structure is
the biggest threat to our society as a whole, meaning everyone on earth. The
biggest threat to the human race is nuclear power. As humans we have
created a multitude of different kinds of nuclear weapons to destroy our
enemies. Humans have also created nuclear sources of power to help
humanity but have very bad consequences if not properly handled.
Nuclear bombs are by far the scariest thing created by man, and this
was proven by the two bombs dropped on Japan at the end of world war two.
The total number of deaths from both bombs was a whopping estimate of
129,000246,000+ killed. The bombs have just been increasing in power
since then. That's 1,400 times Hiroshima and Nagasaki combined or in other
words 10 times the amount of power expended in world war two released in
a single bomb. This kind of power is completely unnecessary and threatens
the human race, the bomb was tested in controlled conditions in the artic
and still affected Norway and Alaska, imagine if this were dropped in a
populated area, the affects would be catastrophic. Another concern of
nuclear bombs is that a country actually uses one on another country, if a
country had a nuclear bomb dropped in its territory, that affected country
would most likely send a bomb there way as retaliation and this would cause
chaos across the world, not just those two countries. It is also possible to

have an accidental launch, this is when a country fires a nuclear bomb either
because of human error or false alarms. The chances of this happening is
extraordinarily slim, but there is a higher chance of you dying from an
accidental nuclear attack rather than the chances of you dying in an airplane
crash. This is a very startling statistic and should enlighten many about the
dangers of nuclear missiles.
Nuclear power is another concern, its a similar danger, but not the
same. Nuclear power is very efficient and clean, when all goes to plan, but if
something wrong happens the effects can be even worse than a nuclear
bombs effect. A perfect example of this is the famous Chernobyl incident.
Chernobyl has been the single worst nuclear accident in the history of
mankind. The plants nuclear reactor had melted down due to human error
and lack of safety mechanisms, they were conducting a experiment in which
they could ultimately produce power more efficiently. This experiment went
terribly wrong and chaos ensued, nuclear radiation was bellowing out of the
hole caused by the exploded reactor, the town wasnt evacuated till the
morning and this incident occurred in the middle of the night. Many
volunteers tried many things to suppress the radiation, pouring sand from
helicopters onto the reactor site, the air the helicopters were flying in was
about 150 degrees. In the end they covered it up with a giant dome made
with very dense metal to block the radiation, if it were not for the efforts of
those men who helped with this dome and contributed to effort to stop the
radiation, the rector would create a self-sustaining reaction. This means the

reactor would create another explosion that would produce more radiation
and it would continue to do this forever. The effects of this event were great,
tons and tons of radiation spread throughout Europe and Asia and theres
some indication it went as far as England, the Chernobyl area will not be fit
for humans for thousands of years.
The effects of this kind of power is simply not worth the risk, many
lives are put in danger every day, and nuclear power is an unnatural
dangerous source of power and should not be used.
