March 20, 1852: Harriet Beecher Stowe was

unaware how slavery worked and how the slaves
were treated until one day she had witnessed an
auction for slaves and when she encountered several
fugitive slaves.Harriet then wrote Uncle Toms Cabin
1850
that describes a slave's life and was published on
March 20,1852. This book had really opened the
eyes of the Northern people because they were
clueless of how they were treated. Although the
North was shocked and angry to hear such treatment
the South were also shocked to read the over
exaggeration.
Lincolns election in 1860: Abraham and
Douglas had a close match for the election.
Lincoln argued for the spread of slavery to seize
while Douglas believed that the states should
choose to have slavery in their borders or to
illegalize slavery within the state's borders.
Lincoln had specifically won all elections in the
North and Douglas won the Southern states.
After Lincoln was nominated and his inauguration
that is when seven states seceded.

Missouri Compromise in 1820: The Missouri Compromise was a

decision made by congress in which divided the land equally with
slave states and free states. This had already been equal but as
they conquered and gained more land the slave states argued that
it was not equally divided .Therefore congress came up with the
compromise that Maine would state af free state while Missouri
would become a slave state and all of the Louisiana Territory that
was newly received would be decide.THis was a law that stated
anything above the 36,30 latitude line would be considered a free
state with the exception of missouri and everything below that kline
would be slave states .However the South soon realized this was
unfair and this act was later repealed and congress made a new
law call the Kansas-Nebraska Act .

Kansas-Nebraska Act in 1854: Unlike the Missouri
compromise the Kansas-Nebraska act allows the people
to decide whether they want slavery in their borders or
not. Since this act opposes the Missouri Act the North
was angry while proslavery settlers strongly agreed.
The anti-slavery people held another election for the act
,but the pro-slavery people refused to vote which created
mixed feeling in Kansas. http://www.historyplace.

Bloody Kansas 1854-1861:After congress had passed the

Kansas-Nebraska act, which introduced the idea of popular
sovereignty.Popular sovereignty was where instead of
congress deciding the fate of a state whether free or slave
state, the people in that state would decide on what they
wanted for their state. Many opposed because it was sought
to be Northern States free and Southern states slave
states.Since this had changed their were many little
political battles and when they took it to far Abraham
Lincoln had to battle his own country to preserve the nation
once created.

Dred Scott vs.Supreme court in 1857: Dred scott was a loyal
slave to his master, however his slave master had died and he
wanted to find a way to be free.Dred Scott had believed he had
the right to a court case hearing because of the constitution and
its protection of the people. However it was decided that a slave
was a bought property therefore he did not have any rights .This
saying he did not have a court case with the supreme court and
if he were to have a case it would be the state's decision since
they are a slave state. It was then finalized that although Dred
Scott had been a loyal slave and had lived in free states he was
still property and the constitution didnt protect him.
