Paraprofessional Plan

Lesson Objective:
When given 8 facts (6+2, 7+2, 8+2, and 9+2), student will solve all 8
problems with 100 percent accuracy on three separate occasions
Connection to CCSS-M: 1.OA 6 Students will add and subtract within 20
Materials:
One whiteboard
One whiteboard marker
Assessment 2.1 (included)
Pencil for the student
Math rockets graphing sheet
Crayon
Setting/Time
Hallway table
9:00am-9:15am
Lesson Procedures
1. Write on the whiteboard vertically the 6-9 +2 math facts exactly as listed
below.
6+2=8
7+2=9
8+2=10
9+2=11
2. Tell the student to listen while you model reading the facts. You will read the
facts like this 6 (slight pause with your voice) +2 (slight pause with your
voice)=8. Read all the facts this way while the student listens.
3. Then, have the student read the facts multiple times with you, while you
listen for him to read the facts more confidently.
4. Next, have the student read the facts multiple times independently.
5. Now that the student is confident reading the facts with the answers, the next
step is to erase the answers and begin reading the facts with the answers
from memory.
6. Erase the answers on the board, but leave the rest of the equation.
7. Tell the student to listen while you model reading the facts. You will read the
facts like this 6 (slight pause with your voice) +2 (slight pause with your
voice)=8. Read all the facts this way while the student listens. Make sure to
emphasize you still say the answer, even though it is not written.
8. Then, have the student read the facts multiple times with you, while you
listen for him to read the facts more confidently.
9. Next, have the student read the facts multiple times independently.

10.Now that the student is confident reading the facts with the answers, the next
step is to erase the whole equation and say the whole equation from memory.
11.Erase everything on the board.
12.Tell the student to listen while you model saying the facts. You will say the
facts like this 6 (slight pause with your voice) +2 (slight pause with your
voice)=8. Say all the facts this way while the student listens. Make sure to
emphasize you still say the whole equation even though it is not written.
13.Then, have the student say the facts multiple times with you, while you listen
for him to say the facts more confidently.
14.Next, have the student say the facts multiple times independently.
Part 2: Writing the facts
1. Write the four equations on the board as modeled below.
6
9
+2

+2

+2

2. Have the student write the answers and read the whole equation with the
correct answers. If the answer he writes is incorrect, correct the answer
and have him read the whole equation multiple times.
3. Write the four equations then in a mixed up order, such as
7
6
+2

+2

+2

4. Have the student write the answers and read the whole equation with the
correct answers. If the answer he writes is incorrect, correct the answer
and have him read the whole equation multiple times.
5. If the student solves all four correctly, give the assessment, if not, erase
the board and write the problems in a different order until the student
gets all four correctly. Then let the student do the assessment.
6. After the student does the assessment, quickly score it. Give the student
the rocket graph and have them fill in the graph with as many they got
correctly, hopefully at they got all 8 correctly. If not, have the student fix
the error and then they can fill in the rest of the graph with a different
color crayon.
7. Afterward, the student may return to class.
