PreK-12 Science Team

FOSS K-5 Earth Science Professional Development

Participants will engage in hands-on activities directly correlated to one of the K-5 Earth Science and
Investigation & Experimentation Standards. Participants will experience various components of the FOSS
curriculum including notebooking, assessments, internet resources, science resource books, reinforcing
vocabulary, and making content chart entries. In addition, instructors will model strategies to address the
needs of diverse learners (English Learners, Standard English Learners, Special Education students,
Gifted/Talented students). Limited to 25 spaces per session. Please register promptly. See registration
instructions below.

REGISTRATION:
1. Log-on to https://lz.lausd.net using your single sign-on account information. If
you are having difficulty using your e-mail account and/or password
information, please contact the ITD Service Desk at (213) 241-5200.
2. Click on the Courses tab.
3. Select the Class Offerings link.
4. Under Program, scroll down to Science.
5. In the Keyword field, type in “FOSS”
6. Select the Search button.
7. Click on the class pertaining to your grade level (scroll down for Kindergarten)
8. Click on Enroll Now and enter the requested information.
9. If you complete this process successfully, an automatic confirmation e-mail
will be delivered to your LAUSD email. If you do not receive this e-mail, you
are not registered. If you need assistance, please contact the science team
(Lillian, Maura, or Diane) at (213)241-6444.
10. All confirmations, notifications (including the possibility of cancellation) and
contact regarding this class will be done via your LAUSD email. Please check
your LAUSD mail often.

Teachers have an option of receiving hours toward a salary point or six hours of
Compensation training rate ($25 per hour), not both.
