We celebrate this week-end the Feast of the Holy

Trinity.
It was Christ who revealed to us this Mystery. Till
the time of Christ and many people all over the
world even today, cannot understand the concept
of One God but Three Persons.
They doubt it. Some try to explain it away as false,
because their minds cannot accept a mystery. A
mystery is a truth revealed to us by God. It may or
may not be understandable. It has to be believed
actually and often it is beyond our human
understanding.
We BELIVE in God. We do not understand God. In
the same way, we believe that, what Jesus Himself
revealed to us about God is a mystery that we
must believe.
Once we accept it, it is such a wonderful concept
that was hidden from us till the Messiah arrived.
As today we meditate on the Holy Trinity, we must
also admit that we have been called to be holy, just
like God Himself. When we work together, we
actually reflect God and the mystery of the Holy
Trinity.

St. Augustine of Canterbury

Feast Day May 27

In a letter to Augustine, Pope Gregory the Great

wrote: "He who would climb to a lofty height must
go by steps, not leaps."
In the year 596, St. Augustine set out from Rome to
evangelize the Anglo-Saxons in England. Hardly
had he and his men reached Gaul (France) when
they heard stories of the ferocity of the AngloSaxons and of the treacherous waters of the
English Channel. Fearing for their safety Augustine
returned to Rome. When Pope Gregory assured
him the stories were false, Augustine set out again
and this time he reached England Laboring
patiently, Augustine wisely heeded the missionary
principlesquite enlightened for the times
suggested by Pope Gregory the Great: purify rather
than destroy pagan temples and customs; let pagan
rites and festivals be transformed into Christian
feasts; retain local customs as far as possible. The
limited success Augustine achieved in England
before his death in 605, a short eight years after he
arrived in England, would eventually bear fruit
long after in the conversion of England. Augustine
of Canterbury can truly be called the Apostle of
England.

What teaching
of the Church
don't you understand
or
agree with?
In this Sunday's Gospel
reading, Jesus explains that
there is more he'd like to tell
us but we can't handle it yet.
Why aren't we ready for it?
Because we have to first let
the Holy Spirit prepare us.
We have to let God transform something within us,
and until we surrender to that
process, the truth is more of
a burden than a blessing,
which we readily reject.

Everything that Jesus said

and did came from the Father through the Holy Spirit. God gave us that same
Spirit, that same Wisdom, that same Truth, but the gift
is useless unless we submit to the Spirit's purifying
activity.
Of the Trinity, it's the Father who forgives sins. It's Jesus who delivers the forgiveness. And it's the Holy
Spirit who sanctifies us and empowers us to go and
sin no more.
In the confessional, the priest is the presence of Jesus

and the whole Body

of Christ (which is the
Church). Absolution
is an action of his Holy Spirit, but it's more
than just the removal
of guilt; it replaces
the sinful vice with
the virtue that will
help us avoid that
vice in the future. The
Sacrament of Confession is a direct
contact with the Holy
Trinity who embraces
our repentance and
transforms us to increase our holiness.
To receive this grace, we only have
to be open to it and interested in cooperating with God. Humility is necessary to be teachable and transformable.
The unanswered questions in our
lives become personal revelations
when we earnestly seek to do the
Father's will in unity with Jesus while
growing in holiness through the indwelling presence of his Holy Spirit.

Reflect & Discuss:

1. Write a list of questions you have
for Jesus. What do you have
trouble understanding?
2. After making the list, ask the Holy Spirit to become your Teacher.
Ask Jesus to help you become
teachable.
3. What gift of the Holy Spirit do
you find most helpful in guiding
you through life's difficulties?
4. How does it help you to figure
out and/or do the Father's will?
