Competency B-3 : Planning

Subcategory 3-1: Demonstrate knowledge and ability to apply critical
thinking and critical inquiry throughout planning of care.

One significant learning experience in this course that relates back to this
competency would be assignment 1, the teaching plan. Creating the
teaching plan and the different techniques for our specific individual in
order for them to grasp the concept of washing hands properly. The
importance of being able to adjust your nursing care based on your
assessment of your client is critical and provides them with the knowledge
they need based on their learning style.

I have learned the differences between all the learning styles such as the
audio, kinesthetic and, visual learner. I have also learnt cognitive abilities
and disabilities, the ability to assess the clients learning needs such as
client barriers and evaluate my client based on how they view themselves
individually. This is meaningful because as a result of learning all of this
and being able to perform these assessments I am able to make a critical
and appropriate decision as to the adjustments of my teachings according to
my client.

According to the proficiency categories, I would rate my proficiency as

Good; (understands competency in theory and in scenarios and in nursing
practices). I picked this rating because as a student I have not fully grasped
every single part of the CLPNA competencies, but I do understand them
and the concept of the competencies and how to apply them in a clinical
setting. The teaching plan helped me understand this competency the most
regarding the different learning styles and how to alter my teaching and
critically think of different ways to solve the problem. I also work at a
hospital as a health care aid, and I have been able to apply competencies to
situations at work and that helps me gain a further understanding of the
competencies.

NURSING PRACTICE

I will apply this learning in my current and future nursing practices by using
the different concepts and knowledge based on this specific competency
and applying it to my everyday nursing career. Critical thinking plays a
major role in the nursing process and planning of your client and their well
being, and I will be able to apply the knowledge I have learnt in theory
classes and lab scenarios to make the proper critical judgment according to
my present client(s).
