Teacher Observation
Name of teacher observed: Mrs. Feeney School: HSJH
Subject of lesson: Nature and ArtDate: 4/18 Time: 1:27-2:12
1. What were the goals and objectives of the lesson? How did you
know what they were?
The goal of this lesson was for the kids to incorporate nature with art,
they did this by taking pictures of outside the school and they had a
certain set of guidelines that each picture had to match. The long term
objective was for the students to be able to paint a picture of a picture
they took. Later the kids are going to edit these pictures on an app and
then paint them. I knew these were the goals and objectives because
that is what the lesson dealt with.
2. How did the teacher begin the lesson? (Review of previous
material, motivational activity, etc.) Explain.
The teacher began the lesson by giving a brief explanation of what
they would be doing that day in class. Then she handed out papers and
explained everything listed on the paper.
3. Describe the activities used in the lesson in order.
The first thing she did was explain what they would be doing that day.
Next, she explained a paper that she handed out going over what they
would be doing that day. After this we went outside and the kids took
pictures of outside.
4. Describe the teachers use of time. (How much time was used
for each part of the lesson?)
The teachers use of time was very efficient. She waited until everyone
was quiet until she talked but when she explained what she was doing
she did it in a quick but efficient manner. There was a lot of time for
the picture taking activity and little for explanation which was helpful
for the students.
5. Describe the teachers classroom management /discipline style.
I could tell that the kids respected her because when she told the kids
to be quiet they listened and paid attention to what she was saying.
She did a really good job of disciplining the students while still being
their friend.
6. How does this teacher encourage students to achieve?
This teacher encourages her students by showing them how if they do
their project right how cool it will be. Also, while walking around she

made sure to talk with each student and make sure they knew what
they were doing. She had a really positive attitude which helped with
that too.
7. What does this teacher do that is unique?
She had a really good balance between the authority figure and friend.
The way she interacted with the student showed them how to not be
afraid to ask her questions but if they get on her bad side she will
crack down on them.
8. What ideas did you pick up on from observing this teacher that
you could use?
I learned how when you teach it does not have to be strictly by the book and
going outside and doing things different can teach them how to think differently.
She also taught me how to interact effectively with the students and how to get
things done at the beginning to leave time for fun at the end.
