Individual Teaching Philosophy:

Tell me and I forget. Teach me and I remember. Involve me and I learn.

Benjamin Franklin
I believe that as a teacher I have the ability to provide a safe and
supportive environment, where students can have a voice and opinion
where it is heard and respected. This environment is important in creating
and

maintaining

respectful

relationships,

in

order

to

gather

an

understanding of each child and their individual capabilities to create

personalised and individualised learning experiences. I acknowledge and
respect that children come from various backgrounds and come into the
learning environment with prior knowledge and experiences. These
experiences will be supported and encouraged within my learning
environment,

as

experiences can encourage children to develop respect and understanding

for those around them. I will value the prior experiences of each child and
acknowledge the importance of parents and establishing communication
with parents, in order to gain further insight into the child as an individual.
I am empathetic and due to growing up with a younger sister, whom was
diagnosed with an intellectual and physical disability, I understand the
importance of seeing each child as an individual and the absolute
importance of taking the time required to build relationships. I value all
children and have an understanding that all children are capable if I
provide an environment where children are encouraged to challenge
themselves and mistakes are acknowledged as an integral part of the
learning process. I will provide children with opportunities to collaborate
which will allow them to create and maintain relationships with their peers
and to learn from one another with the personal experiences each child
provides. I acknowledge that I will learn from the children just as they will
learn from me and their peers, the classroom will be a collaborative

learning space demonstrating the reciprocal relationships that I highly

value.
From initiating these steps within my learning environment, these are the
foundations for involving children throughout their learning journey, as I
believe it is important for all students to be actively involved within their
learning. I acknowledge that all children learn differently and due to
building relationships with the children, I can create student centred and
personalised activities to enable students to feel successful. My main
emphasis will be on building and fostering these relationships, in order to
create opportunities within the learning environment where each child
feels respected, appreciated and to the best of their ability, be successful.
When applicable, children may explore their talents using technology, the
arts or however they can, in order to display themselves within their work.
I value the importance of each child having the opportunity to express
themselves and to be involved within decision making of their work. I will
provide children with opportunities to learn about their personal interests
within a topic, this will also enable the children to have the most up to
date knowledge, research and evidence, in order to allow them to grow
into active and informed citizens within the community.
