Configuring Xbee:

1. Download XTCU at the following link in order to setup your Xbee

2. Connect Xbee via direct USB port or Arduino (see note)

Quick Video Summary (Direct USB and Arduino Connection)
1. Open XTCU and find Xbee module by clicking Add A Radio Module (plus sign icon) and selecting
proper USB Port. Change necessary inputs before clicking Finish. Module should appear on right
hand of screen
2. Select the Setting icon (gear icon) at top right and chose module to configure. If you change a setting,
you click the red pencil icon to the right of the line to write in the setting and then click the green refresh
arrow icon to save/read the setting.
3. Select console icon (computer monitor icon) at top right to send/receive data between modules. To
activate console log, click the serial connector (plug icon). Screen should turn green.
4. Packets are data that you want to send/read from other modules. To send a packet, click on the plus
icon. Type in name and message and then click Add Packet. You can send the single packet or send
sequence by choosing appropriate icons to the right of packet box.
a. Note: Packets can only be accessed when API is disabled. This can be found in the Settings
page under Serial InterfacingAPI Enable
5. Frames are another way to send/read data from other modules. To send frames, click on the plus icon.
Select Create Frame Using Frame Generator Tool. Select OK when finished, followed by Add
Frame. Send using the options to the right of the frames box.
6. follow the same instructions for sending packets

under Serial InterfacingAPI Enable
7. To disconnect console, re-click the serial connector (plug icon).

If you have problems finding XBee on XTCU software, connect GND to RESET pin on Arduino
Be aware TX (Arduino)Dout (adapter) and RX (Arduino)Din (adapter)
5 V_IN (adapter) 5V and VSS GND
When uploading data to Arduino, disconnect RX and TX connection to avoid error
