    officersarms.Thatday,EricGarnerwasmadeavictimofalongstandingissuethatmany
    Americansfacetoday.Thisissueisknownasracialprofiling,aninvisiblethreatthatspreads
    dangertoanyoneofdifferentrace,colorandethnicities,includingchildren.Victimscan
    potentiallylosetheirlivesandbeswayedtonevertrustthegovernmentforprotection.Racial
    profilingshouldbeforbiddentosavelives,andtocreateequalenforcementofthelaw.
    RacialProfilingcaninfluencesomeonetotakemoreactionthanneeded.WhenEric
    Garnerwas"Confrontedbypolicetryingtoarresthimforallegedlysellingillegalcigarettes,Eric
    raisedbothhandsintheairandtoldthepolicenottotouchhim,(Bloom,"NewYorkMan
    DiesafterChokeholdbyPolice).Hehadjustbeenconfrontedbyagroupofpolicemenwhich
    causedGarner,whoisAfricanAMerican,togetalittlestressed.However,heputhisarmsabove
    hisheadandwasnotposingaseriousthreat,especiallynottoagroupoftrainedcops.Although
    thingsquicklyescalatewhenwelookthroughtheeyesofabystanderwhorecorded...the

    Thiswholeordealcouldhavebeendealtwithwithoutviolence,
    butinstead,apersonisnowleftdeadforcommittingsuchapettycrime.
    Itdoesnotmatterhowoldtheyare,racialprofilingonlyprowlsfortheraceofitsvictims,
    meaningchildrenarenoexception.Justlastmonth,astudentnamedAhmedMohamed,brought
    ahomemadeclocktoschool,andshowedittoateacherwhobecamesuspiciousandPolicelater
    showedupatthehighschoolandhandcuffedandarrestedMohamed[forbombhoax]said
    policetookmugshotsandwouldntallowhimtocallhisparentsforhelp,(Frantz,"Teen
    AhmedMohamedBringsClocktoSchool,GetsArrested).DuetoAhmed'sMuslimdescent,the
    teacherhesitateduponseeinghisdevice,andtookprecautionsthatprovedunnecessaryinthe
    end.Whiletheteacherwasdoingtheirjob,itisnodoubtshestereotypedAhmedandhisclock
    withradicalIslamicpracticeswhichledtoAhmedbeingarrestedandleavinghimwithasenseof
    inequalityfromtheschoolandpolice.Amorechillingincidentinvolvedapoliceofficer
    Respondingwithhispartnertoa911callaboutamanpointingagunhearrivedatthescene
    andshot12yearoldTamirRicewhohadbeenplayingwithanairsoftgun,(Cox,"Cleveland
    CopSaidHehadNoChoice).HeapproachedTamirinhispolicecruiser,gotoutrightaway,
    aimedatthekid,andpulledthetrigger,withnoquestionsasked.Theofficerondutyprobably
    wasunawarehewasraciallyprofilingthekid,butthefacthekilledTamirsoquicklywithout
    gettingallthefactsonthesituationshowshisdistrustinAfricanAmericans,specificallywhen
    oneiscarryingagun.Itisunfortunatethatanyoneandeveryoneofdifferentracesandethnicities
    areconstantlypursuedandvictimizedbytheinequalitythathasbeengrowinginAmerica.
    Consequencesfromracialprofilinghaveledpeopletodistrustthegovernmentandhas
    giventhemtheillusionthatthelawisn'ttheretoservethem.Ithasgoneasfarastoevencause

    undeservingpeopletodieandinvokeafearamongthosewhoaredifferent.We,asinAmerica,
    shouldnotbemoresuspiciousofsomeonewhoismulticulturalandethnicthansomeonewhois
    not.Whileweareunawareofracialprofilingfromtimetotime,weneedtorememberthat
    everyoneisahumanbeing,despitetheirrace,ethnicity,andreligion,everyonedeservestobe
    treatedequally.
