James Joyce is an Irish novelist
and poet . he is considered to be one
of the most influential writers in the
modernist avantegrade of the early
20th century . The paralysis
technique shows that a character has
a desire , faces obstacles , then
ultimately relents and suddenly stops
all action .
In other words , one of the most
important techniques of James Joyce
is the paralysis technique . This
means that the character has a
dream , but there are some obstacles
. During these obstacles , the
character softness and he rejects his

desires . The paralysis shows the


character inability to change . He is
unable to change this routine of life .
" A Little Cloud " , is a short story
in Dubliners , by James Joyce . This
short story develops Joyce's famous
paralysis technique . For instance ,
Little Chandler's character , he wants
to change his life , but he does not
have any potientials . In addition , he
wants to be a poet although he has
never written any poem . He does not
have a poet's soul . His aspirations to
write are shallow . He is also too shy
to read a poem to his wife
.Moreover , Little Chandler wants to
change his name to be famous and
successful . He aslo wants to travel
to London .
Little Chandler finds some
obstacles , such as his wife , child ,
the payments , and his
shortcomings . In addition , Dublin is

an important obstacle . Chandler


believes that to succeed in life , he
must leave Dublin like Gallaher did .
People who would like to be
successful must travel outside Dublin
. Nothing will be achieved inside it .
One of Chandler's shortcomings is his
shyness . He cannot communicate
with people . He trembles life a leaf ;
he is afraid from anything .
By the end of the story , Chandler
did not face his shortcomings and he
did not achieve anything . He feels
ashamed of hid disloyal behavior . He
feels more regretful to think of
changing his life . The story finishes
where it began.
