Josef Mengele, Angel of Death." Josef Mengele, Angel of Death. Web. 23 Mar. 2016
This source talks about Mengeles victims prospective, what he did, and how he acted
according to the prisoners. "He had a look that said 'I am the power,'" said one survivor.
When it was reported that one block was infected with lice, Mengele solved the problem
by gassing all the 750 woman in that block. Mengele fed his legend by dramatizing
murderous policies. Mengele would draw a line on the wall of the children's block
between 150 and 156 centimeters from the floor, he would then send those whose heads
could not reach the line to the gas chamber. Mengele had a special liking of twins. During
his time as Head Physician at Auschwitz Mengele did a large number of twin studies.
These twins were usually murdered after the experiment and their bodies dissected. For
example, he supervised an operation by which two Gypsy children were sewn together to
create Siamese twins. The hands of the children became badly infected where the veins
had been reconnected.

This article is about Josef Mengele and how he got to be the head physician in Auschwitz
and mostly what he did when he got there. It illustrates his past in the Nazi Party.
Mengele was born in Gunzburg, Bavaria. He went to study at the University of Frankfurt
am Main for college where he received his medical degree. He was a very strong believer
in the Nazi Party. He became a research fellow in the Institute of Hereditary Biology and
Race Research, where he specialized in the study of twins and racial pedigrees. During

WWII, Mengele joined the Waffen-SS and became a medical officer in France and
Russia. He was appointed to Camp Doctor in the Gypsy Family Camp doctor in
Auschwitz Concentration Camp on May 30, 1943, where he directed many selections of
victims, and proved himself to be a ruthless implementer of the Final Solution. In
Auschwitz Mengele continued his studies on twins, dwarfs, giants and anyone with a
physical deformity. People with any sort of physical deformity would be killed for him
upon arrival in the death camp, to provide new subjects for his medical studies.
This article also tells about Mengeles journey on the run. After the war, Mengele was
able to escape from a British internment hospital and, with the help of false papers, fled
from Rome to Buenos Aires as one of the most wanted Nazi war criminals. Mengele was
reported to have seen in Brazil, Argentina, and Paraguay, and substantial rewards were
offered for his capture.

This article talks about Josef Mengeles role in the Holocaust, the majority of that being
at Auschwitz-Birkenau. Josef Mengele was not the only physician at Auschwitz. He also
did not start out as the highest-ranking physician at the camp; this title belonged to SS
captain Dr. Eduard Wirths. Although Mengeles position as camp physician made him
responsible in all medical matters for the entire camp. Mengele began his career at
Auschwitz in the spring of 1943 as the medical officer responsible for Birkenau's Gypsy
camp. Several weeks after its liquidation, Mengele undertook a new position as Chief

Camp Physician of Auschwitz II, or Birkenau, in November 1943. About 30 physicians
served at Auschwitz during the time when Mengele was assigned to the camp. As a way
liquidation the medical staff performed selections of prisoners on the ramp,
determining from among the vast number of people arriving at Auschwitz every day.
Some were kept for work and others would perish immediately in the gas chambers.

Wiesel, Elie. Night. New York, NY: Hill and Wang, a Division of Farrar, Straus and
Giroux, 2006. Print.
When Elie Wiesel first got of the small train car that he was forced to ride in, the first
person he saw was the infamous Dr. Mengele. He was running the selection in
Auschwitz-Birkenau. Wiesel talks about how he sent people to their deaths with just a
flick of his wrist. It really shows how Mengele was heartless, and had no problem or
remorse with killing innocent people. Mengele made another appearance during the
selection at Buna. Again he showed no remorse about killing these people. He would just
jot their name down like it was nothing. Night really emphasizes Mengeles character.
Mengele was responsible for a majority of the deaths in Auschwitz. He single handedly
killed thousands of people. Not only in his medical experiments, but in his selections. He
also formed grotesque experiments on living people. He was one of the main reasons why
the Holocaust was so gory and nightmarish
