Restricting Permissions
You are setting permissions on a network share named Marketing. Currently, Bob and Aileens
accounts have Full Control over the Marketing folder. However, you want to restrict both users
so that they can revise files within the Marketing folder and create new ones, but cannot revise
executing programs. What permissions should you apply? Show how you setup the permissions.

To set up permissions:
Right click the file in Windows Explorer to expose a popup menu, and select the option for
properties.

Once properties is selected, you should be seeing this window:

Next, click on the Security tab to apply restrictions.

At which point you should see something similar to this:

Now select the group or user names you want to apply the changes to.

Click the Edit button to change permissions for the user or group.

To change permissions:
At this point, your should see the Permissions For Marketing window.
Now we can simply allow or deny specific privileges for the shared file.
Next, select the checkboxes for list folder contents, read, and write.
Leave everything else unchecked. Heres an image detailing the changes:

Now click the Apply button to save the settings, and press OK to exit the Permissions for
Marketing Window.

Once the Marketing Properties window has appeared again, select Close to exit Marketing
Properties.

Your final result should look like this:

Mapping a Network Drive

Samuel needs to be able to access the \Projects\Documents\98-349\ folder on the network often
and quickly. He doesnt want to click through several folders to get to the one he needs. What
can you do to help Samuel? Show your work.

Samuel will need to map the network drive. This way Samuel will have easier access to the
shared folder. Essentially, we will be mapping a drive letter to a network location. Then Samuel
can open the file with a few clicks in Windows Explorer. For this exercise, I will be using a
network file called Users.

Heres how to map a drive letter to the shared folder:

First locate your folder. This is done by opening Windows Explorer, and navigating to the file.
Mine is located here:

Right click the folder (#1), then select the Map Network Drive (#2) from the popup menu.

Once the appropriate option is selected, the Map Network Drive dialog box will be displayed.
Next youll want to specify a specific drive letter to use (#1). The Z drive should suffice here.

Once the drive letter is chosen, you can click either one of the checkboxes (#2). Choose the
one(s) that suit your preference.

Click finish.

Heres a screen grab depicting the previous few steps described above:

Now the drive should be mapped. Heres my own result:

Resolving a Driver Problem Using Recovery Boot Options

You recently installed a new video adapter in Jeffreys desktop computer using the driver
supplied on the CD in the adapter packaging. When Windows starts, the words on the screen are
unreadable. What is a possible solution for resolving the problem? Show how you would fix the
system.

I could not find anything in the assigned reading regarding Recovery Boot Options. However, if I
had a problem after installing a new driver, I would revert back to the previous device driver.

To revert back to a previous driver:

Start by typing device manager into the Windows Search field, and pressing Enter on your
keyboard.

Locate the type of device by selecting it. Once the individual devices are shown, right click the
specific device you would like to roll back the drivers on.

In the popup menu, select Properties. See here:

Once the properties dialogue box is present, navigate to the Drivers tab (#1) by selecting the tab
heading, and select the option to Roll Back Driver (#2). See here:

Once you perform these last steps, you will be asked to confirm the option. If this is what you
want, then click Yes.

Chapter 10 Additional Exercises 1) Create a folder and share it using advanced sharing.

To create a foler:
First open Windows Explorer, by selecting the icon from your computers task bar.

Once Explorer is open, select the Local Disk (C:) under the Computer tab on the left side of the
screen. Note: If Local Disk (C:) isnt visible select the triangle next to the Computer tab.

Next, in the file Window (right part of the Windows Explorer interface), right click an empty part
of the window, select New, and then Folder from the popup menu.

At this point, a new folder icon should have appeared. The name of the folder is New Folder
by default. The folders default name should be highlighted blue. The highlighted name is

First, select who you want to select permissions for. Then in the bottom part of the window,
select the specific permissions. For this exercise we will be allowing Full Control, Change, and
Read. Simply click each checkbox to allow these permissions.

Now select Ok to return to the previous screen. Select OK again. And in the original screen,
select Apply, and select the OK to end the process.

We can look in the following two places to verify that our file is indeed being shared. See here:

And here:

Once these steps are completed, a new window will appear with the option to rename the printer.
Once you have made your choice, select Next.

In the following window select the radio button to share the printer. Change the name if you
would like, and then select Next. See here:

Once you select Next, everything is pretty much done.

Simply print a test page if you would like, then click finish. See here:

Chapter 11 Additional Exercises 1) Using any computer model as an example, go to the vendor's website and locate the
drivers. Determine for which operating systems the vendor provided device drivers for that
computer model.
For this problem, I am going to be using the Dell Inspiron 20 (mid 2014) as an example. I got all
the information off of Dells support site. The specific page I used for this exercise is located at:
http://www.dell.com/support/home/us/en/19/product-support/product/inspiron-20-3043-aio/
drivers. Dell only provides device drivers for Window 7 and 8 64 bit operating systems.

2) Use the Device Manager to explore the various devices installed on a computer. 239
To open device manager:
Start by clicking the Windows Search button.

Once the Windows menu is open, type device manager in the Windows Search field. and press
the Enter key.

Once the previous step has been completed, the Device Manager for your computer should
appear on the screen.

The Device Manger will allow a user to explore the various devices installed on their PC. Heres
a shot of the devices installed on my PC.

The headings for certain devices can be selected to reveal a subheading for the specific device(s).
