References
BBC. (2014). Ethics of euthanasia - introduction. Retrieved May 12, 2016, from
http://www.bbc.co.uk/ethics/euthanasia/overview/introduction.shtml
This article from BBC explains the ethics of euthanasia. Specifically, it explains what
euthanasia
Is, and the difference between killing and euthanization of a patient. It also describes
euthanasia as medical care. It also touches upon why people want to receive euthanasia.
I will be using this source in my essay because it explains the ethics of euthanasia in very
brief terms but the explanations are thorough. I also feel that this source is a good basis
of knowledge for readers that do not know about or understand the process of euthanasia.
Of all the sources I had looked at for explanations of euthanasia, I felt that this source
was the most thorough and understandable with its information.
BBC. (2014). Voluntary and involuntary euthanasia. Retrieved May 12, 2016, from
http://www.bbc.co.uk/ethics/euthanasia/overview/volinvol.shtml
This source from BBC explains the three different types of euthanasia; voluntary,
involuntary,
and nonvoluntary. When explaining the three different types, the source thoroughly
explains the difference between each type of euthanasia as well as gives examples of
when each situation may occur. For example, when someone goes through the process of
voluntary euthanasia the patient and the doctor both agree to begin the euthanasia
treatment to end the patient's life. I will be using this source to explain these concepts in
my essay because they are important factors of euthanasia that the reader should
understand.

Euthanasia: The Choice of Life or Death

This source is a biography written about Brittany Maynard, a 29 year old woman that
received a euthanasia treatment after she was diagnosed with stage four, terminal brain
cancer. She moved from her home in California to Oregon, one of five states that has
legal euthanasia. Compassion and Choices is an end-of-life organization that advocates
for the legalization of euthanasia. I will be using this source because it talks about a
positive story of euthanasia which will be good arguments for my essay. Compassion and
Choices is an organization that advocates for the legalization of euthanasia, making it a
credible source to use for my essay.

by Brittany Maynard. Retrieved May 13, 2016, from
http://www.people.com/article/brittany-maynard-right-to-die-bill-california-gov-brown
I chose this source because it is about a woman named Brittany Maynard who received
euthanasia treatments when she was told she had two months to live because of a large
brain tumor. Brittanys story went viral when she packed up her life in California and
moved to Oregon to receive treatments. Brittanys story influenced the Governor of
California to legalize euthanasia treatments in their state a year after her death. I will be
using this source in my paper because I believe that people should listen to Brittanys
story and be influenced by it. The influence of Brittanys decision to die peacefully,
rather than suffer, is present in this article making it a good reference for argument points.

Euthanasia: The Choice of Life or Death

This is a news podcast that I found on PBS. The video talks about euthanasia laws in
Belgium and new laws that have just legalized euthanasia for children under the age of 18
making Belgium the first country to lift all age restrictions on treatment. Doctors in
Belgium, specifically Dr. Jutte Van der Werff ten Bosch, believe that euthanasia is a good
procedure especially for those that no they no longer want to suffer from their terminal
illness. By making euthanasia legal for patients of all ages, Belgium doctors believe that
treatment will end and euthanasia will be the way many terminally ill patients choose to
die. I will be using this podcast in my essay because I feel that it has strong arguments as
to why euthanasia should be legalized in the United States. PBS is a credible news
source which is also another reason why I will be using this podcast.

Humphry, D. (2013, September 7). Assisted Suicide Laws In the United States - ERGO.
Retrieved
May 12, 2016, from http://www.finalexit.org/assisted_suicide_laws_united_states.html
This source is a list of all of the states and their rules on euthanasia. It lists the states
where
euthanasia is legalized, why it became legalized, as well as when it became legalized. It
also lists the states that it is not legal. For the states that euthanasia is illegal, this article
specifies the states that explain why they do not legalize euthanasia in their state as well
as the states who do not specify any reasoning. I found this interesting. I will definitely
be using this source in my paper so I will be able to explain the laws and why euthanasia
is legal in certain states. I can form very strong arguments with the source due to the
information it contains.
