Problems with Voting Today

By Logan Chenworth
Some people may wonder why it would even be necessary to write such a
newsletter as this one. With the amazing things that voting brings about,
it would normally be safe to assume that everyone did! But alas, that is
not the case. There are a number of reasons why close to half of
Americans dont vote (42.5% as of 2012), and her are a few.
The first is that many people dont think their vote will count.
While its true that one vote in over 300,000,000 may not have a huge
impact, if all 42.5% did in fact vote, that could have a table turning
impact. The second is rather straight forward in that many people are
just too busy! Everyone is always go go go, from school to sport practice
to work, stop to eat dinner, sleep and repeat. It can be hard to make
room for going and checking a little box for the candidate of choice. This
may not sound terribly hard, but leading into reason three, lines can
sometimes be very long and tedious. This also leads to another reason
that people dont vote, and its one word: politics. Politics are widely
viewed as boring and useless, all politicians do is argue. While there is
validity behind this, it is important to realize that if people dont voice
their opinions, someone else will. And it may not be what the people
want.

If people dont voice

their opinions, someone
else will.
