CONSEQUENCES OF MONSANTOS PRACTICES

Monsanto is known for GMOs and GMO food products that are
causing havoc in the environment, to the people , just to name a
few.
1. The infringement of Monsantos patents of genetically
modified seeds leads to threats and lawsuits by the company
against the poor farmers who can do nothing else than to
comply. Consequently, suicide rates are on the rise of the
farmers blamed for such infringement.
2. The genetically modified seeds are claimed to be of high
nutritional value, more resistant to insecticides and
herbicides, giving higher yields. However, over the years,
these claims havent proven to be true. Instead, the use of
these GMOs pose a serious health risk to those who consume
it. The American Academy of Environmental Medicine
(AAEM) cites its research done on animals to show that
genetically modified seeds produced crops consumption
leads to organ damage, gastrointestinal and immune system
disorders, ageing and infertility.
3. Monsanto is also causing havoc to the ecosystem. GMO
crops are supposed to be the main reason of Colony Collapse
Disorder in honeybees where majority of the worker bees
disappear and their bodies never found. A study conducted
by the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) claims that
the pesticide is a serious threat to honey bees which are
important to the human food supply, including fruits and
vegetables, which must be pollinated by bees.
4. GM foods are said to contain higher residues of toxic
herbicides. Roundup, for instance, is linked with sterility,
birth defects, hormone disruption and cancer.
