Professional Development

Professional development refers to further pursuit of education, in this

short report I will link the information I have researched and selected to
support my career plan, I will now highlight the professional development
and training that I will need to undertake to reach my short and mediumterm career goals. Before anything we must understand that in all
occupations, professional updating and training are normal and
promotional prospects can be linked to training and development, so to
begin with the methods of professional development I will have to
undertake as part of my career plan will consist of two qualifications, the
first of which will be an Accountancy and Finance Degree (BA) and the
second being an ACA (Association of Chartered Accountants). The degree
will begin in September of 2016 and I will qualify with it in June of 2019,
after qualifying with the degree and beginning with an accountancy firm I
will be working as an accountant in either tax or audit fields. The three
academic years of this qualification and professional development of
myself will vary year by year; the first year of the qualification will have a
number of modules which commonly across all accountancy courses and
this includes the following:

Quantitative Analysis

Financial Accounting

Accountants in Organisations

Management and Cost Accounting for Accountant

The Legal Environment of Business and Employment for

Accountants

The second years main accountancy modules will include:

Accounting information Systems

Management Accounting

Financial Management

Corporate Reporting and Governance

The third and final year of the degree will include the following modules:

Corporate Finance

Advanced Management Accounting

Issues in Accounting and Finance

Advanced Corporate Reporting

Overall we can see how all three academic years of the qualification
concentrate on various areas of accountancy and thus at the end of the
qualification I will have developed my knowledge on accountancy
significantly and simultaneously have professionally developed, from this
we can also see how professional development is important for my chosen
career path. Furthermore with the ACA, this qualification of further
professional development will me make chartered in the field of
accountancy as I obtain it, I will begin studying this in September of 2019
when I begin on my graduate position with whatever accountancy firm I
receive a place with, this will be a few months after I would have obtained
my degree and the ACA consists of 15 modules over 3 levels which are
certificate, professional and advanced, the course also runs in two stages
of which follow as: Stage 1 including the certificate and professional level,
and Stage 2 including the advanced level. The ACA will be the extent of
professional development in terms of qualification methods in my career
plan and from then on it would only be work experience which would
allow me to develop, however the ACA is crucial as with it in becoming a
qualified chartered accountant, both the ACA and my degree qualifications
will be recognised worldwide in the field of accountancy and thus opening
much more opportunities for the future on career path which overall is
why it is important to continue professional development. Overall to
summarise this informative short report I have demonstrated clearly my
understanding of the nature and purpose of continuing professional
development.
