Senior Project Reflection

1. What were your expectations when you first started to work on the paper and on the
product and with mentor? Did your experiences meet those expectations? How did they
Differ?
Answer: My expectations when I first started to work on the paper was that it wouldnt take too
long and that I would be able to easily find my research. However, when I began the research
process I found that statistics on adoption for specifically Muslims and in general were not easily
found, and that the laws on adoption made things a bit more difficult than expected. But the
overall process when I got a thought going was easy enough.
2. What problems did you encounter while researching and writing your paper? What was
your greatest resource in overcoming these obstacles?
Answer: The problems I encountered was getting a non-online source. I overcame this by using
my interviews to base my research especially the islamic perspective from the Sheikh.
3. What was the most interesting or surprising information you learned in your research?
Answer: The most interesting things I learned in my research were probably the many different
laws on adoption, both in Islam and in the United States.
4. What did you learn about yourself during this project? How will you use what you learned
throughout the rest of your life, academic or not?
Answer: I learned that I oftentimes procrastinate things, and that makes my work not as good as
it could be. I have learned from this to try and organize my time and prioritize my different tasks.
5. What did the project teach you about the holistic view Islam has for every aspect of our
Life?
Answer: Islam has rules for everything and this was especially portrayed in my project through
the different laws on adoption or kafala and whatever other laws that had any connection to it as
well were very detailed but also encompassing of many factors of life.

6. What would you do differently now that you have finished?

Answer: What I would do differently now that I have finished, is to first go to a library or find
books when researching rather than being dependant that I will be able to find them later with
ease. I also will try to do things in a more timely manner.
7. What advice would you give to next years seniors about how to achieve success of the
senior project?
Answer: Do it about a topic you will enjoy researching and something you can learn new things
not only about your chosen topic but about a variety of other things as well. Also for real do not
procrastinate, and its so hard to not do that but try your best.
8. What grade would you give yourself for the project? Give your justification.
Answer: I would give myself between an A-. Because of my occasional tardiness with
assignments, and the errors I am sure are in my paper.
