I am interested in applying for a teaching position. Through my experiences of working with children, I have discovered that I have developed an affinity for working with children with special needs. My experiences as a student teacher and teachers aide in the classroom, as well an Applied Behavior Analysis therapist and tutor in the home setting, has allowed me to work collectively with other educators to meet the needs of children of varying ages. In working to meet the needs of the child, I have taken it upon myself to differentiate instruction so that all my students can not only gain access to the general education curriculum, but also take an active role in their learning. For example, I created hands-on science centers for different units that incorporate Howard Gardners Theory of Multiple Intelligences, and Blooms Taxonomy to encourage higher-order critical thinking, and student centered inquiry based learning. Aside from this, I utilize different forms of assistive technology, and educational technology to optimize student learning and engagement. Technology has also allowed me the opportunity to establish a collaborative relationship between home and school by creating online student portfolios, as well as videos and visual study aides that can be shared on a class website. My coursework in Applied Behavior Analysis, as well as my experience as an ABA therapist has only strengthened my abilities, and has made me knowledgeable about the beneficial impacts that the appropriate behavioral intervention plans can have on a childs life. In this position, I have been responsible for creating and implementing behavior intervention plans, as well as reward systems that utilize positive behavior supports to continually reinforcer positive behavior in the classroom. I have also acquired experience with conducting discrete trials, as well as collecting data and keeping anecdotal notes to monitor the childs progress in mastering his or her skills. I know that this opportunity will only help me in further developing my skills. My resume covers my experience and qualifications in greater detail. In addition, my online portfolio, which can be viewed at hakimianteacherportfolio.weebly.com, provides an overview of my experience and credentials. I can be contacted at (516) 851-5845, or by email at joshuayhakimian@gmail.com. Thank you for considering me for this position. I look forward to hearing from you. Sincerely, Joshua Hakimian
