Weaponsbecamebetterandbettereverytimewefoughtinwars.Before,weusedswords,
bowsandcatapultsandtheneventuallywedevelopedweaponsthatcankillhundredstothousandsof
peopleinamatterofminutestohours.Theseweaponsarelikethechemicalweapons,missiles,machine
gunsandtanks.Theseweaponsallbecamemorepowerfuleverytimebecauseoftheworkofscientists.
Theyhadtheirreasonsofdevelopingsuchpowerfulweaponslikeprotectinghisorhercountry,loyalty
forthecountryoreventostartawar.
Oneofthemainreasonsscientistsfeelobligatedtocreateweaponsofmassdestructionis
becausetheywanttoprotecttheirowncountry.Theycreateweaponstodefendthemselvesintwo
ways,tocreateastrongdefensesowhentheyareinvaded,therewillnotbeaffectedgreatlywhenthat
happensortoscareacountrysomuchthattheyeventuallydonteventhinkaboutinvadingthat
particularcountry.Thecreationofthepoisongaswasoneweaponwhodidjustthat.Thepoisongasor
alsoknownasthechlorinegas.ThiswasaweaponthatisusedduringWorldWar1anditendedthe
trenchwarfarebecauseitforcespeopletogetoutofthetrenches.Whenthisweaponwasunleashed,a
lotofsoldierslosethemoraletofight.MachinegunswereanotherweaponusedintheWorldWarII.
Thismadeastrongdefenseandituseslesspeopletodefendthantoattack.Italsomadesoldiersand

NerveGas.ThiswasmadebyagermanchemistnamedGerhadeSchtader.Thegaswasnotusedin
WorldWarIIbutitwasusedafterthewar.Someoftheplaceswherethenervegaswasusedarein
TokyoandSarin.(Chemicalweaponsandthescientistswhomakethem)
Anotherreasonwhyscientistsfeelobligatedpowerfulweaponsistosavetheirownsoldiers
livesortohavebetterchancesinwinningthewar.Thelongerthewarsdragson,themorecasualties
thereareinawar.Usingweaponsthatcanspeedupawarcanlessenthenumberofcasualtiesbecause
shorterwarshavesmallercasualties.Oneexampleforthisisthecreationoftheatomicbomb.The
atomicbombwasonlyusedtwiceinWorldWarII,bothwereusedinthecountryofJapanandit
helpedendthewarwithJapanquicklyinsteadofaninvasionwhichsaidtowouldhavecostover

theatomicbombwhichwasthenumberofcasualtiesinHiroshima,thesoldiersandcivilianstoo.Butit
wouldsavealotofpeopleifaninvasionweretohappeninstead.InPresidentTrumansdiary,hesaid
thatthetargetwasonlyamilitaryoneandtheywillaskJapantosurrenderbeforedoingthis.Other
inventionsthatweremadeforthisreasonaredroneswhichhelpedreducedtheriskofpilots.Anotheris
theLASERorLightAmplificationbyStimulatedEmissionofRadiation.Itisusetoguidewarheadsfora
morepreciselocation.TheTASERisanotherweaponmadeforthisreasonbecauseitcandeal

Tosummarize,thereasonswhyscientistsareobligatedkeeponbuildingstrongerandmore

ofthereasonswhyscientistsareobligatedtobuildstrongerandpowerfulweaponsaretheywantto
defendeachtheirowncountrieseitherbybuildingastrongdefenseorscaringothercountriesbackoff
fromthem.WeaponsthatscientistbuiltforthisreasonistheAtomicbomb,poisongasandmachinegas
becausetheseweaponscanspreadterrorandpromoteagooddefenseifusedagainstrivalcountriesor
enemies.Anotheristhatisincreasesthechanceforcountriestowiniftheywereinawarwithanother
countryorcountries.Someweaponsbuiltforthiswerestrongertanks,thehydrogenbombandthe
atomicbomb.ThelastreasonIthinkthatscientistareobligatedtocreatestrongandpowerfulweapons
isbecauseitcansavealotofsoldierslivesoftheirowneitherbyattackingwithapowerfulweaponor
usinglesslethalormorepreciseweaponswhichiswhatmostscientistsdidaftertheatomicbomb.I
thinkitisagoodthingthatscientistareobligatedtocreatesuchpowerfulweaponsbecausepeoplefeel
safeaboutit.
