How/Why It Supports Your

Argument
Social media serves the distinctive
purpose of presenting an individual
through the online world by different
conventions such as tone, diction,
and detail while each type of social
media achieves this goal in a
different way.
Describes how Facebook serves as
an online profile through the posting
of statuses as well as explains the
audience of Facebook users.
It goes into the kind of diction
Facebook users practice when
posting statuses as well as how
much detail is used considering that
the audience is so vast, its not too
personal since information can be
shown to the public. This paragraphs
shows how choice of words is
important when writing a status.
It explains why people post statuses
and what they gain from it. Also
further explains how people present
themselves online through political
views or personal experiences. This
paragraph does not include a
convention that furthers the
argument.
This paragraph goes into a specific
convention of Facebook statuses
called tones. It describes tones
based on different statuses as well
as discusses how first order thinking
is used when Facebook statuses are
written.
This paragraph brings up a different
form of social media that also is a
form of online presentation. Its
difference in purpose and audience
affects the conventions used

7. It describes the purpose of a

tweet and freedom that comes
with it as well as its
consequences.
8. Describes the diction of tweets
compared to Facebook statuses.

9. Discusses how Instagram differs

from Facebook and Twitter in
terms of purpose as well as
constraints.

purpose backs up a picture
instead of mainly focusing on
words.

importance of genres.
12. Summarizes how the different
type of social medias differ from
each other in terms of purpose,
detail, tone and constraint.

especially when it comes to the 140

word constraint.
Discusses how a different purpose in
social media can create a more open
environment. People freely tweet
their opinions which is directly using
first order thinking more than
Facebook.
This paragraph shows how diction
and pathos are used to cater to the
readers expectations and how the
expectations differ from Facebook
statuses to Twitters tweets.
Instagram has a different purpose
that is mainly achieved through
pictures. Because of the different
purpose, it has an even looser
constraint in that captions are not as
important when come across or
sometimes even looked at.
This paragraph compares Instagram
caption content to statuses and
tweets. It also brings up the topic of
editing rules in the three types of
social media.
Reminds the readers why genres are
important and why they should care.
Doesnt mention social media or the
argument of conventions used.
Shows how social media is different
from each other and why
conventions are important to keep in
mind when writing for a specific
form of social media.

When asked to re-edit my WP1 I thought it wouldnt take too long. I

was confident that it was in a pretty good condition and that all I needed was
some minor editing. One sentence in and I couldnt even understand what
my argument was and found myself asking the same thing as Zack before
even reading his comments. In terms of structural changes, I reorganized my
paragraphs into ideas. I found that all of my paragraphs were a page long or
longer. They contained many ideas that were scattered everywhere making it
hard to read and easy to get lost in. I restructured it by ideas so that the
reader would better understand my main point of each paragraph and how
that correlates into my main argument of the entire essay. Something that
really helped me was finding real textual evidence. This helped my argument

immensely seeing that now I did not have hypotheticals but real life
examples that proved my point.
Reverse outlining forced me to really think about my thesis. I actually
changed the wording of my thesis for I found that it didnt really state my
argument. Reading every paragraph again and writing down the main point
reminded me of my main argument and the purpose each paragraph should
serve. I was able to find a thesis that covers the point of every paragraph
and allow them to connect to each other in order to back up my main
argument. I also thought the reverse outlining was helpful because it forced
me to make sure that I didnt have fluff in my writing and that every
sentence served a purpose in making my argument stronger. I was very
hesitant about the reverse outlining in the beginning, but it definitely
reminded me the purpose of my paper and the best cohesive way to
organize my argument.
