Information Technology: The example of low cost airline and extensive use of the internet for booking
highlight a general trend where tourism is becoming more directly available to consumers. The direct and
efficient lines between providers ( individual operators as well as tourist destination) and consumers , offers
new opportunities for information flow and flexibility in both production and consumption. The internet,
therefore facilitates speedy communication at a negligence cost.
In some situations, tourist operators or destinations require information immediately. Similarly, airline require
weather information within 6 hours of a flight e.g. in relation take-off temperature, wind direction and speed
etc. The internet service are the most immediate sources for this information.
4. Social Trends and Changing consumption Patterns: Great differences exists in tourist behaviour across
different age groups, gender and ethnicity, and for different socio economic groups. An increasing number of
people in western societies have sufficient disposable income and the free time to participate in travel.
Access to tourism is not equal for the different classes of society. This relates among others to the number of
trips taken per year, number of days spent of days spent away and frequency of international trips.
Professionals e.g. are taking more holidays and are more likely to travel abroad than people from the working
class. The trend of an increasing number of women in the workforce has implications for travel behaviour
because employment reduces available free time but at the same time increases disposable income.
In developed countries an increasing number of individuals pursue lifestyles that are no longer need friven
( e.g. satisfying basic needs such as food) but that are motivated by the need for esteem and status or
experience.

5. Responsible Tourism: Responsible tourism is an approach to the management of tourism, aimed at

maximizing economic, social and environmental benefits and minimizing costs to destinations. Simply state,
responsible tourism is tourism that create better places for people to live in and better place to visit.
It is mainly conceived with three kinds of responsibilities which are termed as the Triple bottom line
responsibilities- Economic responsibility, Social responsibility and environmental responsibility.
