JUNE 2016
Thank you to you all for your support and kind messages following the death of
my Mum. I am so glad I flew back to the UK when I did but realise I left suddenly
and was not able to find people to cover r all of my teaching. However nine
students did take up my offer of Skype lessons and found that they were both fun
and useful!

CONGRATULATIONS
The following students recently passed their Grade 5 theory exam having
completed my course GRADE 0 GRADE 5 THEORY IN TEN LESSONS:

NATIONAL CHAMBER MUSIC COMPETITION
High school students
The Auckland heats take place this week and eight of my students are
participating. Every one of them has improved tremendously as a result of
preparing for the competition. The very best of luck to Hannah Barber-Wilson,
Akari Ouchi, Matilda Hur, Sarah Fouhy, Emily Zou, Emma Wu, Francesca OrchardHall and Holly Butt.
IRMT SCHOLARSHIP COMPETITION Students Grade 7 and above
This competition takes place on the afternoon of Saturday 10 September and
is open to students of a registered music teacher (Auckland branch). As I am
such a person, my students are eligible! Last year the woodwind class prize of
$350 was won by Holly Butt. Entries close on Tuesday 26 July and cost $20.00.
I encourage all my students who are Grade 7 and above to enter (although a
number are not eligible because they have already won it). It is an excellent goal
to work towards and great if you are preparing for school assessments, an exam
in November or would just like a goal to work towards. The forms are attached to
the email.
PRACTICAL EXAMS CLOSING DATE FOR ENTRIES

ABRSM:
Friday 5 August for exam in early November
If you are interested in taking an exam, remember that I expect students to have
learnt at least two pieces from each list (A, B,C),to know all scales (though not
from memory or up to speed) and be showing a good practice ethic by the exam
ENTRY date. A number of students have expressed interest in dong an exam, but
are way behind in learning their scales in time!
Please note that in addition to the exam fee, there will also be the accompanists
fee and music cost (I will lend some of the music though).
NZDRS OBOE MASTER CLASS SERIES
Everyone
As President of this Society, I have been putting together a master class series,
helped by former student, Noah Rudd, so that everyone can learn from the

amazing oboists we have both in NZ and visiting from all over the world. Anyone
is eligible to apply to take part in a master class, provided they have a piece at
performance level and are confident performing in front of an audience and
receiving suggestions for improvement from the artist. Everyone is invited to
come along to listen, learn and be inspired.
The first class is to be given by Camille Wells of the APO, at 4pm on Saturday 25
June. I will send more details in the next few days.
NZDRS Conference, Double Delights: Christchurch 4 -5 October 2016

This year, our Christchurch branch is hosting our annual event. Have a look at
the website for details of all the classes and activities that will be happening. I

THE WELLINGTON INTERNATIONAL OBOE SUMMER SCHOOL 3-8 January
2017 Grade 8 and above
This summer school features some of the most eminent oboists in the world. It
has previously been held at the Chateau Tongariro and at Akaroa. Participants
include professional players, amateur enthusiasts, university students and high
school students (for which there is a special programme). If you are planning to
study the oboe at tertiary level, this summer school is a must!
