to be able to look at the 5ws of who, what, where, when and who.

Lesson Phase
Orientation /Introduction
How will you motivate and
explain the learning intention
of this lesson?
What kinds of questions
might you ask?
This should link to prior
learning experiences.

The introduction to the lesson will be discussing with the students

the concept of main idea. We will discuss what we did the lesson
before on how we find main idea in a story by looking at the 5ws. I
will get the students to do this by looking at their hand:
- The thumb stands for who
- The pointer finger stands for what
- The middle finger stands for where
- The ring finger stands for when
- The pinky finger stands for why
I will get the students to demonstrate the 5ws with me on their
hand, and explain how these help us to find the main idea in a
story.

Teaching strategies/
Learning Activities
What strategies will the
students be engaged in to
achieve the learning
outcomes?
How will you cater for a
diversity of learning needs?
How will you manage
transitions between various
lesson phases/activities?

Students will then be given a worksheet to do where they have to

find the main idea of the story. The students will have to:
- Read the story
- Circle the main idea
- Write three details about the story in the boxes.
Once students have finished this activity, they need to then
continue with their current reading and finding the main idea of the
story.

What kinds of questions might

you ask?
What formative and/or
summative assessment
strategies will be used in this
lesson?

Conclusion /Closure
How will you capture the
main ideas of the lesson?

Students will conclude the lesson by sharing the main idea of the
story they read.
