As Stony Brook Universitys most trusted campus publication, The Statesman has stimulated the campus community with engaging, award-winning journalism while informing students and faculty alike since 1957. Every Monday, we distribute our print edition to a combined audience of about 26,000 students and 2,000 faculty and staff
and publish a PDF version of the paper on our website. With over 100 distribution
points placed in high-traffic areas located both on and off the universitys campus,
as well as a combined print and online readership of 20,000, The Statesman is the
premiere option for reaching Stony Brook Universitys diverse community, including
the vast and engaged alumni network across the country.

INSERTS

DEADLINES

Free standing inserts are accepted. The minimum


run is 4,000 and the maximum run is 5,000 during the fall and spring semesters. The open rate is
$75 per thousand. Prior approval must be secured
and dates must be reserved 10 days prior to publication. Preprinted inserts must be received by the
printer one week prior to publication. Please contact our Advertising Department for more details.

The Statesman operates on the latest version of


Mac OSX, but can also take files generated in
Windows. File formats we accept are AI, PSD,
JPG, DOC, EPS, TIFF and PNG, though PDF is
preferred. We can answer any questions regarding file types and will work with you to achieve the
best-looking ad. All ad material must be received
by noon the business day before publication. Files
must be in correct format.

ONLINE ADVERTISING CREATIVE SERVICES


The Statesman is proud to offer online
advertisements. Please contact our Advertising
Manager for information about ads on our website and pricing details.

PLACEMENT
Special placement is available for most advertisements but cannot be guaranteed. A surcharge of
25 percent of the cost of an ad can guarantee
placement.

Page Two - Placement on this page is one of
our more desirable requests.

Any advertisements requiring design must be


submitted 5 business days prior to the day of
publication. The Statesman will work with you
to create your ad to your specifications at 20
percent of the ad cost. We will also give our
input on how to best reach your audience
on campus.

GENERAL POLICIES

The Statesman is not responsible for any errors


in submitted advertisements. The Statesman also
reserves the right to reject any advertisement that
does not meet the standards and policies of the
newspaper. Cancellations or changes to ads must
be made 2 business days prior to publication.
Payment for all ads is due within 30 days of the
run date. The Statesman also reserves the right to
print Paid Advertisement on any ad that closely
resembles editorial content.

CLASSIFIED RATES

The cost for a line classified ad per issue is


$12 for the first 20 words and $0.25 for each
additional word. This price allows your ad to run
in both the printed edition of the newspaper and
also on our website, www.sbstatesman.com, for
the duration of one issue.

CREDIT POLICY

All advertising is pre-paid either by cash or check.


The Statesman can also accept Visa or MasterCard if the balance totals $30 or more. Credit will
be extended only at the discretion of the Business Manager. If credit is approved, statements
are mailed weekly. Terms are net 30 days. The
advertiser is to indemnify The Statesman for all
expenses it may incur to enforce collection of any
amount due, which shall include reasonable attorneys fees and court costs resulting from such a

October 17 - Homecoming Wrap-Up

first issue of the semester hits stands on the day classes begin.
By advertising in this issue, you can reach students as they move
back on campus and prepare for the upcoming academic year.

September 5 - Fall Sports Preview Insert


Our second-annual Fall Sports Preview Insert examines Stony
Brooks Division I teams, features athelete profiles , and runs
conference recaps. By advertising in this isue, you are reaching
on and off-campus consumers, as well as readers nationwide who
are interested in one of the largest NCAA Division I programs.
October 10 - Homecoming Preview
Reach thousands of students, staff, faculty, alumni, and
campus visitors with this issue which includes a preview
of Stony Brooks Homecoming weekend. In addition to our
regular distribution, this issue will be handed out at the
Homecoming game and at other events during the day.

November 7 - Hoopla Basketball Preview Insert


This is the seventh edition of our annual Hoopla Insert which
previews the mens and womens basketball teams right
before the season begins. As both teams aim to reach the
NCAA tournament this year, this issue will be handed out at
each teams first games and will be available all season long.
December 12 - Fall Farewell
This is our last issue of the fall semester and the
last chance to reach students before they leave for
winter break. This is also a great opportunity to
present holiday deals and promotions to our wide audience.

Januraru 23 - First Issue Back

March 27 - Jobs Feature

This is your first chance to reach the entire student body. Our
first issue of the semeser hits stands on the day classes begin.
By advertising in this issue, you can reach students as they
move back on campus and prepare for the upcoming semester.

Our second-annual Jobs Feature will offer information and insight


on the job market for graduating seniors. It will show students
where on campus they can go for advice. It will include profiles
of recent Stony Brook graduates who are working in interesting
fields. Advertising in this issue will allow you to reach Stony Brooks
ambitious population who are about to enter the work force.

February 13 - Sex & Relationships Feature


Our Sex & Relationships Feature is our largest and most widely read
issue that students look forward to every year. Inside, students will
find a separate pull-out with articles about the state and complexities of intimate relationships in 2017. This is a prime opportunity to
reach the entire campus community right before Valentines Day.
February 20 - Spring Sports Preview Insert
Our third-annual Spring Sports Preview Insert will examine SBUs baseball, softball, and mens and womens lacrosse
teams. Profiles of the athletes, team schedules, and a recap of
the America East Conference will all be included inside. By advertising in this issue, you are reaching Stony Brooks growing
fan base both on campus and in the surrounding comunity.

April 24 - Food Feature


Our Food Feature will take a look at food and wine news
both at Stony Brook University and throughout Long Island. Our reporters will not only explore local restaurants,
fine dining, and cultural cuisine but also provide recipes
for our hungry readers. This issue will provide advertisers
with an opportunity to reach an audience interested in exploring different culinary options both on and off campus.
May 8 - Spring Farewell
This is our last issue of the spring semester and it will recap the
biggest stories from the academic year. This is the last chance to
reach students before they leave for summer break. This is also a
great opportunity to advertise summer specials and promotions.
