December 2, 2015- Tashfeen Malik and Syed Rizwan Farook shot 14 people to
death and injured 21 others in a shooting in San Bernardino, California. They were killed
in a shootout with the police. Malik had pledged allegiance to ISIS over Facebook.
May 24, 2014- Three people are killed and others seriously injured in a shooting
in Brussels, Belgium. Shooter Mehdi Nemmouche was arrested. He had spent a year in
Syria and is considered a radicalized Islamist.
November 2015: ISIS brought down a Russian plane killing 244 people on board.

Al Qaeda

Background Info
Al Qaeda was founded in 1988 by Osama Bin Laden and Mamdouh Mahmud
Salim. After Bin Ladens death, Ayman al-Zawahiri was elected leader of Al Qaeda.
Country of origin was Afghanistan and Pakistan; later moved to Sudan
Allies: Taliban, Egyptian Islamic Jihad, Turkistan Islamic Party
Enemies: Anyone non Islamic and who ever has freedom.
Who was involved: Al Qaeda was involved with people who are against the US
government primarily. This group is made of extremists of the Islamic belief. Each
member had to say a pledge to al Qaeda and Osama Bin Laden, which is called the
bayat.
1993 October 26, They kill US Soldiers in Somalia.
1998 June 25, Truck bombing at Khobar Towers barracks in Dhahran, Saudi
Arabia, killed 19 Americans.
1998 August 8, Bombing of U.S. embassies in Kenya and Tanzania; 224 killed,
including 12 Americans.
1999 December 13, Plot to bomb millennium celebrations in Seattle foiled when
customs agents arrest an Algerian smuggling explosives into the U.S.
2000 December 1-3, Bombing of the USS Cole in port in Yemen; 17 U.S. sailors
killed.
2001 September 11, Destruction of WTC; attack on Pentagon. Total dead 2,992.
March 17 2002, Al Qaida attack churches in Islamabad.
