Using the Windows Print Screen function to capture DDDL Data

Users often ask for a procedure to capture the data from a DDDL screen and save it to be printed at a later
date. One method is to set up your PC to print off-line. This procedure is described in detail in the DDDL
user guide. Another procedure is to take advantage of the Windows Print Screen function. This procedure
allows the user to capture any data screen, save it to a file, and print it at a later time.
1. Open up the Wordpad application. Note: Wordpad is used in our demonstration because all operating
systems that are capable of running DDDL have this application. Similar procedures may be used with a
variety of programs capable of handling graphic data. From the main Windows screen, go to Start,
Programs, Accessories, and select Wordpad, as illustrated below:

2. Once the program is opened you may minimize it. Use the minimize control in the upper right side of the
application. Wordpad will appear in the tray, normally located in the bottom portion of your screen.

3. Use your normal procedures for opening up DDDL and connecting to the vehicle. In our example well
capture the Engine Configuration screen, however this procedure can capture any DDDL screen.
To capture the data screen below, simply click on the Print Screen key. (The key is typically located on
the right of the keyboards top row of keys). Note there will be no message after youve captured the
screen acknowledging the operation occurred.

4. The next step is to call back the Wordpad application. Click on the application in the tray once with your
left mouse button.

5. When the Wordpad application is opened again choose the Paste option from the Edit drop down
menu.

6. A copy of the screen will appear in the document. The image may be moved or re-sized. Annotations
may also be made within Wordpad.

7. To save the document to allow printing at a later time, choose the File drop down menu.

8. A new dialog box will appear asking you to give the file a name and location. Once this is completed the
file may be recalled and the data printed out at a later time.
