Methods of Deflocculation

In deflocculating is usually aided with a catalyst known as Electrolyte . For a batch of 100 parts
of clay body only .2-.5% of catalyst is added . in addition to catalyst 40% water is also added ,
thus the specific gravity of liquid is attained to be 1.7, much heavier than water (sp.gravity 1.0) .
Commercially used Deflocculants are

Sodium silicate
Soda ash
Mixture of sod.silicate and soda ash
Dishwashing soap
Darvan ( manufacturing chemical )
