Paragraph #

Main Point

Thesis: Although all three articles are about the same subject, each
one is able to employ unique moves, make distinct structural choices,
and include specific supporting quotes in order to discuss the legacy
and development of popular thoughts on the matter of racism within
Song of the South.

Rural as Racialized Plantation is structured by beginning with an

abstract and an introduction, which include key terms and their
definitions.

Rural as Racialized Plantation then has two sections about tropes

followed by two sections about Song of the South and The Princess
and the Frog that describe how the tropes relate to each of the films.

Reassuring Convergence also begins with an abstract but then goes

on to describe the case study along with a brief history of Song of the
South.

The rest of the sections in Reassuring Convergence show how

different people feel about Song of the South and what they have
done for their side of the debate.

Readers of Reassuring Convergence have to make use of visual

literacy because Sperb scatters images from the actual movie
throughout his article to support his argument.

Should dated films see the light of today? is written in a more

informal tone and is structured differently than the other articles in
order to reach a larger audience.

This expands on paragraph 7 and the fact that the article is written in
a non-academic tone by discussing a specific example of a move the
author uses to produce this tone.

Liebenson includes quotes from famous people to provide evidence

for his argument in an effort to keep the audience interested because
he knows they will likely be swayed by the ideas of people they like.

Conclusion: The three articles are able to reach their audiences and
tell them about the same topic, but do so by using different moves,
evidence, and structure.

I chose not to make any significant structural changes from my original WP2 when revising it for
the portfolio because throughout peer reviews and even in Zacks commentary on my paper, no
one seemed confused by the organization of my argument. One larger change I did make,

however, was the fact that I decreased the length of my introduction because it ended up being
over a page long. I had already cut it down significantly after going through peer reviews, but
after reading Zacks comments I realized it was still too long. I had a hard time trying to figure
out what to cut out since I felt that a lot of the information I included was important background
to provide for my topic, but I think I managed to shorten it to a much better length for my
portfolio version.
