As a result of this lesson, students will be able to:
Revise prior learning from past History (Ancient Egypt) lessons.
Investigate God and Goddesses Website by British Museum to allow for completion of Egyptian Gods Work
Sheet (Appendix 1+2)
Discuss learned information from investigation of Website content as a class.
Apply knowledge of Ancient Egyptian Gods and Goddesses to Egyptian religious beliefs such as The
Afterworld and Mummification.

Teachers Prior Preparation/Organisation:


Observation of prior History lessons
Liaise with Mentor approximately 2 days before
scheduled lesson to allow for editing and
improvement of lesson plan if necessary.
Teacher has previously revised text book: Pearson
History 7 (Teachers Companion) pages 151-160.
Students have person copy of Pearson History 7
and HaSS writing books.
Teacher has created documents Egyptian Gods
Work Sheet (Gods 1-5) (Appendix 1) and
Egyptian Gods Work Sheet (Gods 6-10) and
copied to cater for all students: 22 students
Teacher has corresponding answer sheets
(Appendix 3+4)
Teacher to have Egyptian Activity Sheets
(Appendix 5, 6 and 7) available for students who
finish early.
Website Gods and Goddesses by British Museum
is accessible to students and loaded onto
interactive whiteboard (Link to be uploaded to
Edmodo prior to lesson if difficulties occur in

Provision for students at educational risk:


Students with learning difficulties (including but not
limited to dyslexia, dyspraxia, low level concentration,
and/or low level cognitive ability) will be supported
through visual aids such as YouTube, picture-centered
websites and hard copy class handouts etc.
Students who are gifted and/or talented will benefit from
linguistic and verbal activities such as reading from the
text book, participating in class discussions, thinking in a
critical manner, and analysing information from website
to enter into work sheets.
Students with CAPD, ESL or vision impairments will
have the option of viewing YouTube videos with
subtitles. Students can also zoom in on website to allow
for increased font size.
Students will have option to use personal IT device
(iPad) to type answers if writing proves difficult.

Teacher to facilitate prior knowledge discussion with students.

1:30pm

Teacher to randomly hand out Egyptian Gods Work Sheet (Gods 1-5)
(Appendix 1) and Egyptian Gods Work Sheet (Gods 6-10) (Appendix 2) so that
half of students have one work sheet and half have the other.
Task:
Students access website Gods and Goddesses on personal IT device.
Students navigate site and find pictures of Gods/Goddesses that match
Gods/Goddesses on their worksheet.
Students enter information into work sheet under corresponding headings
(God, Name, Appearance, Description)
Note: In Name column, students should aim to copy Gods/Goddesses
name in hieroglyphics.

Pharaoh Mortal and Immortal.
Nile Flooded every year because the Pharaoh willed it to flood.
Gods Could be plants and/or animals, humans or weather
Anything unusual that happened (Nile did not flood, war, droughts)
was a result of the Gods, not because of human action.

Students turn to page 154 titled Egyptians & the Belief in the Afterlife
Teacher/students to read: Life After Death (pg 154)
The Cult of the Dead (pg 154-155)
(Since topic has been covered, discussion will be brief)
Students look at source 6.2 and 6.3 and answer Q2. Examine the figures and
the box carefully. What conclusion could you make about the Ancient Egyptian
whose tomb this is?
Discussion:
Owner of tomb was probably someone important
Lots of ushebtis = Required many servants to work for him/her
Detailed art work on box and sarcophagus = Royalty? Higher class?

Teacher reads Going to the Afterworld paragraph (pg 157).

Investigate God and Goddesses Website by British Museum to allow for
completion of Egyptian Gods Work Sheet (Appendix 1+2)
To meet objective, students will navigate God and Goddesses Website and
locate relevant and appropriate information. Students will complete Egyptian
Gods Work Sheets (Appendix 1+2) entering information into all boxes. Objective
to be judged through collection of HaSS work books and checking of work.
Objective 3:
Discuss learned information from investigation of Website content as a
class.
To meet objective, students will participate in class discuss contributing ideas,
thoughts and knowledge to discussion. Objective to be judged through verbal
assessment. Objective to be judged through verbal assessment.
Objective 4:
Apply knowledge of Ancient Egyptian Gods and Goddesses to Egyptian
religious beliefs such as The Afterworld and Mummification.
To meet objective, students will use their prior knowledge of Gods and
Goddesses as sourced from God and Goddesses Website and class
discussion to implement into Egyptian Religion study (looking specifically at The
Afterworld and Mummification). Objective to be judged through verbal
assessment.
