Design of Low power Signal Conditioning ASIC for Accelerometer

ABSTRACT
The project deals with the design and fabrication of signal conditioning Application
Specific Integrated Circuit (ASIC) for MEMS based accelerometer by using custom designed
low power and low noise Operational Transconductance Amplifier (OTA) or Operational
Amplifier (Op-Amp) as basic analog building block.

INTRODUCTION
In the age of information and signal processing, sensors play an important role as they
constitute the main front-end in generating the signal in this physical world. In recent times
there is a significant rise in demand of sensor systems in almost every aspect of modern day
life ranging from biomedical applications to automotive safety. Most of these applications
require the sensor system to be small in size; they must consume less power and should also
be able to communicate. A signal conditioning circuit measures the sensor output and
transforms it to a level suitable for display and communication with significant accuracy and
linearity. An Application Specific Integrated Circuit (ASIC), dedicated to a particular
application, may include the front-end interfacing, signal conditioning, data conversion and
communication system.
So far now, I have read the several papers which are related to basic analog building
blocks such as OTA, Op-Amp, which are specifically designed to meet their own
requirements. Also, I have simulated some models of OTAs namely balanced OTA, tuning
OTA. By using these two, I tried to design square wave generator.

Objectives

Design of low power and low noise OTA or Op-amp.
